Gilmore Girls, Dean/Rory oxoniensis July 13 2011, 11:39:40 UTC
A very belated little ficlet!

"Did you two lovebirds enjoy your picnic?" Miss Patty calls out as they pass her studio.

"Um, yes, thank you, Miss Patty," Rory says, grabbing Dean's hand and picking up speed.

"How on earth does she know?" Dean whispers under his breath even though they're out of ear-shot by now. The picnic had been a spur of the moment decision, chips and soda grabbed from the cupboard, and a bag of salad for Dean. They'd snuck away quietly so no one could waylay them with Saturday morning jobs or point out studying that needed to be done or essays to be written. And they'd found the perfect, isolated spot at the back of Fuller's mill where no one could catch them making out. They'd kissed under the oak tree, to the sound of the mill brook and the rustling of leaves just starting to turn brown, and Rory had curled up in Dean's arms and saved memories.

"Because she's a witch?" Rory suggests. She's only mostly joking.

"Or maybe she has spies?"

"The crows talk to her," Rory says solemnly.

"Nothing is secret in Stars Hollow."

"Don't tell me you're only just realizing that!" Rory's known that since she was old enough to talk. And she was a precocious baby.

Lorelai calls to them from the living room the moment they get home. "Have a good picnic?" she asks, heading into the kitchen and putting the kettle on.

"Not you too," Rory says. She turns to Dean: "I swear, I didn't tell anyone where we were going."

Dean has to ask, even though Rory tries to drag him upstairs before he can say anything. "How do you know we've been on a picnic?" he says, tugging Rory into the kitchen after Lorelai.

"I'm Rory's mother; I know everything," Lorelai says, doing her scary-mom face. Rory shrugs at Dean - she's used to it. Dean doesn't back down, just stands there, waiting for an answer, and eventually Lorelai gives. "Also, Rory's got grass stains. You should never wear white pants on a picnic."
