+ I thought ten days into the transcript project would be a good time for us to regroup, see how we're all getting on. I know at least one team has finished their first draft (well done Team 4
( Read more... )
Half of the transcript is at finished first draft stage. One quarter has names added, but still needs major editing/checking for dialogue accuracy, and one quarter is still to be started (but hopefully will be today).
I'm going to ask the Chief Translator to look through the last remaining bits that we haven't figured out, clean up those bits after that, and then we are done!
Also, I am now free to help another team. :)
I used Wikipedia to help identify some of the main recurring characters and IMDB for episode specific characters (who often were unnamed - go "Alpha Lieutenant"). Further to that, I tried to look up anyone that wasn't named on IMDB in the Generation Kill book. I know not everyone has that resource so if anyone needs it, I'm totally here. :)

Dude, you know what I just realized is actually a great place for the main characters? HBO's Generation Kill site. They have a picture of everyone in Bravo 2 plus command. I know I would sometimes like randomly get Christensen, Stafford, and Lilley confused so that would have helped out for sorting them out.
We've got one third pretty concretely done and edited that just needs a little extra help from our Translator.
I sent out an email on Wednesday asking for a progress report from my Team Members and have only heard back from one of the two members who still need to finish their portion, who said she's writing it out long-hand before she types it up in the GoogleDocs document. I'm going to send another email to our AWOL member, and if she doesn't reply, or can't do her portion, I'll just pick up the slack myself.
Half of the episode has been transcribed , and the other half should be done in 2 days. We should have the full first draft soon. There is still fact-checking to be done, as well as having the translator go through various unidentifiable voices.
One question: Should we transcribe the songs? If so, what format? Thanks!

Thanks for booking in! Looking good.
If you can transcribe the songs, yes please. Here's the format I used for the one I did (luckily not the hardest of lines! *g*):
CHRISTESON AND STAFFORD [singing] Can I kick it? Yes you can. Can I kick it? Yes you can. Well I'm on. Uh huh. Uh huh. Can I kick it? Yes you can. Can I kick it? Yes you can. Can I kick it?
We can always tidy up formatting differences across the documents at the end anyway - I've noticed a few variations as I've been reading through.
