Generation Kill - question and icons

I'm writing a first time Brad/Nate story, set during the invasion (time period from roughly the second episode to the last). It's from Brad's point of view, and I'm struggling to know what name he would use for Nate internally. Obviously, to the men, he calls him the LT, and to Nate's face, Sir or maybe even Lieutenant or Lieutenant Fick if the situation calls for it. But in his head, would he call him the LT always? To start with, it feels right, but as they get closer it feels weirder and weirder, and my porny section now keeps jumping from 'the LT' to 'Fick' (which I don't recall Brad ever using), to 'Nate', (which I can imagine him using in his head, possibly, even if he wouldn't to Nate's face) and I need to fix it before I dump it on a beta.
Suggestions? Opinions? Just want to talk about how ridiculously hot those two are together?
+ And now the icons. Largely Nate, Brad, Ray and Walt, but also Pappy, Poke, Godfather, Sixta, Doc, Rudy and Chaffin. Dirty Earl's snuck in there too if you look closely.
