Supernatural 4x19 - Jump the Shark
This just left me with an overwhelming feeling of sadness. For Adam, for Dean and Sam, for John too. Even a little for the ghouls. One of those episodes where everyone gets a tough ride, and no one gets a real break.
I do feel glad for John that he wasn't a monk after Mary's death. And I understand why he didn't tell Dean and Sam about Adam, or Adam about Dean and Sam. But it's one more set of secrets that were kept, and I felt for Dean in particular when he realised that here was a whole new side of his father's life he'd never known.
Sam and Dean burning their brother's body at the end was just heartbreaking. As was Dean's admission that Sam was far more like John than he'd ever be.
"I'll take that as a compliment."
"Take it anyway you want."
That was the final bit that broke me, because not so long ago that would have been the biggest compliment Dean could give Sam. And now, now he's seeing a Sam who puts the hunt ahead of almost anything (except Dean), a Sam who lies when he thinks it's necessary, a hunter. And that's not what Dean wanted for him.
Wow, I really need something happy now!
