"Why don't we anymore", Batman: Dark Knight, Alfred/Lucius, beforeguiltyreasonsJanuary 28 2009, 06:06:47 UTC
There was a visitor in Lucius’ room, but not one he hadn’t been expecting.
“Good evening Alfred. It’s done,” he said as he closed the door.
Alfred nodded still looking out the window at the Tokyo skyline. His hands were neatly tucked together behind his back and every inch of him was covered in wool.
“Good,” said Alfred before he turned with a bow of his head, “I should be heading out then.”
“You came all this way to for that?” he asked suspiciously.
“I should be getting back. The master will-”
“Be fine for one day without you. You’ve always doted over that boy too much.”
“He’s worrying me Lucius. I fear this,” he said glancing about the room cautiously, “Obsession of his is consuming him.”
Fox nodded sitting down on the bed and undoing the formal tie as he said, “We all worry for him, but we must let him make his mistakes.”
“Thank you, Lucius, it‘s always nice to be to confide in someone,” Alfred said although he wasn’t less tense, “God, remember before, what we would have done in a room like this.”
Fox remembered to well the fevered kisses, sweaty palms and the smell of tea mixing with motor oil. Alfred turned to him when Lucius didn’t respond. Lucius did nothing to hide the sorrow in his eyes.
“Why don’t we anymore?” he asked having always wondered, but never asked. There had been a time they would sneak off, live out their private sin, enjoy each other’s company. It’d been frantic when they had first met, first realized, but had died down as time dragged on. Nothing had ever been established, no relationship, no plans, so Fox felt he didn’t have the right to ask.
“We’ve both got to old for that sort of thing.”
Lucius couldn’t hide his laugh, “Never wake up with a kink in your Johnson?”
“It’s not that,” Alfred said forcing down his own chuckle, “I figured there comes a time in a man’s life where he stopped rotting about in the closet.”
“You could always come out of the closet Alfred, I’m sure everyone knows by now.”
“That’s not what I mean. I mean…”
“I know what you mean. But that doesn’t mean I don’t still, often, think of you. Miss you,” Lucius said getting up and putting a hand to Alfred’s cheek, the other man automatically pulled away.
“I’m not a young man anymore. All those things you miss about me have faded.”
“In case you haven’t noticed you old loon I’m no young buck either.”
Alfred turned to him and Lucius gently pressed his lips against his. There was no resistance, just the same forlorn longing that had plagued his own life for too long. He let the kiss linger than pulled away.
“Half the fun of finding the love of your life is growing old with them. Don’t take that from me.”
“The lo-Really?”
“Always were,” he said before taking his lips again in a more impassioned kiss.
It was different. There were more wrinkles and less muscle. Neither of them were as flexible as they used to be. They didn’t have as much stamina and things ended faster while staring slower. There sure the hell wasn’t going to be any seconds. The important things were the same. Alfred still cried out his name in that wonderful accent and Fox still couldn’t contain himself while the other was kissing on his neck. The pleasure still made his head spin and he chanted Alfred’s name over and over again in his head. Alfred curled up against his chest like a child exhausted once everything was done. In the morning they still parted, a spring in their step and no one was the wiser.

I'm so very lucky, one prompt two amazing fics. I love this. The way you played with a "deleted" scene, the confidence those words you put on their mouths and The important things were the same. Alfred still cried out his name in that wonderful accent and Fox still couldn’t contain himself while the other was kissing on his neck. The pleasure still made his head spin and he chanted Alfred’s name over and over again in his head.

Ok This is the second fic under this prompt and I must say they both make me adore this pairing of Alfred and Lucius Fox. The important things were the same.
Now, when I watch the movie I'll mentally insert this scene and smile.
