yuletide recs and guessing

Dec 26, 2008 15:52

I totally didn't wake up at 5.30 and then again at 6.30 on Christmas Day, and crawl out of bed half-asleep check to see if the yuletide archive was open.

Goodies are for sharing, and I had two fabulous stories, both of which I love and made me incredibly happy.

Crisis Management (or Just Another Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood) [Eureka, Henry and Jack, PG, 2,067 words]
This is the history of their friendship, moving from the early days when Jack's just starting to learn to trust Henry, through the point where, well, I'll let you read for yourself! This is the friendship fic I've been craving, just a perfect balance of crazy goings on and male bonding.

Mistletoe Kisses [Chuck, Bryce/Chuck, Awesome, G, 1,050 words]
Not only does this have Bryce making things better for Chuck, it has bonus Awesome being equal parts awesome and oblivious and 100% adorable. And such a sweet first time kiss. Very happy-making.

Besides my two gifts - which I haven't read over and over in the same way I didn't get up in the middle of the night on Christmas morning - here are some of the other stories I've particularly enjoyed so far. I've been reading completely at random, in case you can't guess!

the sandwich story [Calvin and Hobbes, Calvin, Hobbes, PG, 1,315 words]
Bittersweet.

Sugar and Spices and Explosive Devices [D.E.B.S. Lucy/Amy, Scud, PG, 2,760 words]
This is now my canon Lucy backstory.

You Can't Put A Price On Tim Riggins [Friday Night Lights, Tim, Lorraine, Matt, PG, 3,073 words]
Oh, Tim! <333 This just perfectly captures the simple, ordinary humanity of the show.

The Aunt and the Ankh [Jeeves and Wooster, Jeeves/Wooster, PG, 5194 words]
Priceless! I laughed so much at this, and it has, imo, just the right gentle amount of Jeeves/Wooster.

Three-Card Monte [Life, Ted, Charlie, Dani, PG, 2,689 words]
Perfect Ted voice, and great background as to who he is and what makes him tick.

youth: a heartbreakingly schmoopy work of staggering genius [Oceans movies, Danny, Rusty, Reuben, G, 596 words]
This captures Rusty and Danny perfectly!

When Pigs Spread Their Wings and Fly [Penelope, Johnny/Penelope, Annie, PG-13, 1,249 words]
Fun look at Penelope exploring her 'heritage'.

One Minute, Counting [Pushing Daisies, Emerson, Ned, G, 1105 words]
Loved the conversation - Emerson and Ned to a tee.

The Teddy Bear and the Itty-Bitty, or, How Olive's Persistence Finally Paid Off [Pushing Daisies, Emerson, Olive, PG, 1,161 words]
Adorable, with perfect character voices.

Debts [Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Martin, John, Cameron, Reese, PG, 424 words]
Martin and John meeting again in the future.

The Amazing Adventures of Hat Guy and the Girl Who Stole His Hat [xkcd, PG-13, 1002 words]
Perfectly in keeping with the comic strip.

In case I don't get around to making another yuletide recs post this year, my yuletide delicious tag is here.

I wrote four yuletide stories this year (and started scribbling a fifth one in my notebook then promptly forgot about it - I'm smart like that). One I think is so obvious it may as well have my name on it, two are guessable, and one no one is going to guess. If you guess one story correctly, I'll write you a drabble in one of the fandoms. If you can guess two of the stories, I'll write you a ficlet. If you guess three, I'll write a story. If you guess four, well, I think they used to burn people for that kind of thing. Go on, guess, make my day!

I can't decide whether to write more Merlin boarding school AU now, or watch new Doctor Who. Hmm...

challenge: yuletide, recs
