Supernatural 3x10 - Dream a Little Dream of Me

Feb 08, 2008 11:30

Where the hell do I even start?! I'm all flaily with love for this episode, and for Dean and Sam and Bobby. And Bela, I love to love/hate her!

Random, disjointed flailing ahead.

Bobby backstory! Gah, poor Bobby. So he's another hunter who went from ordinary guy, to killing his possessed wife, to hunting. Sounds like that's as least as common as it being a family tradition, what with Gordon and Tamara and John that I can think of off the top of my head.

Oh, Dean. Dreaming the perfect suburban dream, wife in a pretty white dress and picking your son up from practice. And now Sam knows that's his dream. (I love that we got to see Lisa again, see that she and Ben have been on Dean's mind.)

Sam dreaming of Bela was priceless, the drool on his hand and his little content eyebrow twitch and Dean teasing him about his happy noises, and going straight to Brad Pitt as a fantasy option after Angelina Jolie. I loved the way Sam backtracked on his reaction to Brad Pitt too - first a vehement no, then a no but it wouldn't be that bad if I were because I'm not homophobic so if you ever want to tell me about your fantasies, Dean, and they're about a guy, that's perfectly okay. Because he totally manages all that with the second no.

I adored Sam's reaction when Bela arrived in reality. There's just a little glimpse of his right arm moving, clearly dropping his hand over his crotch, and then he waves awkwardly to her with the wrong hand, because no way is he moving his right hand just yet.

I do love the way they sandwich Bela's name with 'crap'! Dean: "Crap. Bela," and Sam: "Bela, crap." But Dean, opening a safe right in front of her, letting her see the Colt inside? Will you never learn?!

Neither Bobby nor Dean could fight their way out of the dream, but Sam was able to manipulate the manipulator. Sheer willpower, or a manifestation of the power in him?

And now for the really serious stuff. Dean's total lack of self-worth. Thinking that everything that defines him is really his father's. And all that pent-up rage still, that John couldn't protect his family. And even still, it's not about him, it's about John not saving Mary, not being there for Sam. It's just so deep-rooted, that even when he's railing against his father, it's still not really about himself.

Finally, Dean admits he doesn't want to die. And Sam's simple, "Alright, yeah. We'll find a way to save you." Total confidence in his voice, that they can do so now they're both working towards the same goal. "Okay, good."

Picspam, because damn those boys were pretty this week! But OMG, CW, I hate you for that awful Pussycat Dolls logo you plastered all over the screen - can't you just let us watch an episode without constantly telling us about other shows?!

Sam's a very emo drunk, especially when he's worried about Dean (which seems to be the only time he gets drunk).

That little thing Sam does with his tongue... Guh

I think this shot is incredibly pretty

Crucified
