Title: Paradigm Shift Fandom: Alan Bennett - The History Boys Pairings: Irwin/Dakin Rating: NC-17 Word count: 4,196 words Notes: My yuletide story for pun. A huge thank you to meadowlion for the helpful beta.
Never mind how brilliant the movie is and the play was, love, this is so gorgeously in character. The characters are so full, the move fantastically seamless. And this -
It might have made a difference. To Irwin at least, but oddly enough, Dakin doesn't think his own life would have changed that much if any of those had happened. But that's the way it is with such moments; it's impossible to know which ones will make the difference.
Oh, wow, thank you! I'd never written in the fandom before, and although it was easy in some ways, being a brit fandom and set somewhere I know, I always have a panic moment when I wonder if I've got the characters anything like recognisable.
I still haven't caught up on Yuletide History Boys fic but this is wonderful, Dakin/Irwin distilled. I was going to quote lines but there are too many gems and the whole thing hangs together so perfectly. Yes, yes, that's him and that's them and this is what ought to happen.
It's odd in watching the film I really wasn't for Irwin/Dakin but in this I am totally for Irwin/Dakin. Totally.
Plus you won me completely at - behind the cricket pavilion in Christchurch Meadow, hand under their skirt to the muted background sound of polite applause and the thud of leather against a bat. Because more than anything I am a sucker for a cricket reference.
I have to confess, I'm not much for the pairing myself, and I wasn't entirely confident I could pull it off! So your comment makes me incredibly happy!
Because more than anything I am a sucker for a cricket reference.
It's such fun writing a British fandom, and one set somewhere I know, because I can sneak in all the little things I'm familiar with. So it had to be cricket!
And yes, completely yes, to writing in a British fandom. It's why I nearly always reference rugby when writing Torchwood fic. After all - Gwen and Ianto are Welsh.

It's all just subjunctive history.
My favorite. ♥ Gorgeous.

And thank you so much. It means a lot coming from you: I've not read much in the fandom, but your stories are consistently fantastic.
