Smart IT savvy people needed

Background: I bought a new modem with integrated wireless router last weekend. My PC connects directly to the internet with it, and I can now go online with my laptop via wireless connection. All seemed good.

Except that, the other night, I lost my connection on the laptop for a minute or two, and when the connection came back, it was to a network called youvebeenhacked. That's not what I called my network! So, am I accidently connecting to someone else's network? Or has someone done something nasty to mine, and if they have, can they do any damage if I use my laptop with the network card in it? Can they do something at a distance, or would they need to be in range of my network? Because if it's the later, well, my neighbours are away on one side, and the others don't strike me as even vaguely likely to do something dodgy. I don't have a clue if I'm in serious trouble, or if it's just a silly little thing to think nothing of. But in the meantime, I've taken the network card out of the laptop.

I tried googling, but I don't really know enough about what I'm doing to even use the right search words. So, if anyone has any ideas or reassurance or anything, please, tell me! I just want to stop worrying about it and go back to writing wee!Winchesters and Stargate crack.

ETA: Problem solved! Thanks, chiroho and trinity1986.
