This is the sort of storyline and story-telling style that can be a disaster. Long monologues and hallucinations don't usually make for good viewing, and I confess to groaning in weary anticipation of much cringing when Sam showed up. So kudos to David Hewlitt/the director/writers/etc. for pulling it off! I think McKay is the only character who would have worked in this situation, and he managed to be funny, irritating, endearing and sad, often at the same time.
I love that Rodney's best insult was "you lemon!" And "there's brilliant, and then there's me" was another highlight, along with "Lieutenant Colonel Siren" and "I changed the subject - you of all people should be able to keep up".
I also laughed when I first realised that the episode title was going to refer to Rodney - bless him, not a phrase that normally goes hand in hand with Rodney McKay! And sea monsters - woohoo - go
