because dreams are made of this

So last night my absolute worst nightmare ever came true.

It's been pretty hot here, and I've been sleeping with the windows open but the curtains drawn shut.  This keeps out the majority of bugs, but last night there seemed to be a higher number than usual in my room, probably because it rained yesterday.  Moops killed three or four bugs for me, then we settled down to go to sleep (Moops sleeps on this air mattress we bought because he is a huge smelly boy and there's not enough room for him in my bed!  :)  ).  So I was drifting off a bit and settling down in a comfortable position, when I turned my head to face the other direction and saw some huge dark shape crawling on my pillow!  I yelled and got up fast, and Moops dashed to turn on the light.  And what was it, you might ask?  A HUGE FREAKING SPIDER.  A huge freaking spider was crawling on my pillow, inches from my face, and if I hadn't happened to see it it probably would have crawled into my ear and eaten my brains or something.  Ok, maybe not, but I was seriously freaked out.  We killed it and everything, but I absolutely wanted to die.  Moops had to hold me to get me calm enough to go to sleep, and I'm still not really sure how I managed to sleep after that.  *Huge shudder*.

So, in one day I realize a dream (see Milton's house) and a nightmare (come face to face with a spider in the safety of my own bed).  Interesting.  It must balance itself out, somehow.

In other news, Moops has started reading Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy, and I'm digging it.  I'm about a third of the way through Northern Lights, and he's over there finishing The Subtle Knife as we speak.  When I get home I'm going to put the series aside for a bit, though, and re-read Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix in anticipation of the new book.  Who's with me at the book release party at Barnes and Noble?  thorin2003airbasejen?  Come on, kids.  You know you want to!
