WOOP! I finished the short story for the competition. I'm quite proud of myself, even if it is only a short one at 1,508 words. Well, I still need to revise it tonight and to find it a decent title.
I did find it hard to meet the required wordcount. Ever since I've started to write seriously, I've been surprised by how concise a writer I am. I always thought I'd end up writing ginormous sentences that went on for pages. It's funny how things work. I wonder if my style would be heavier in French. For a start, you often need more words to say the exact same thing, and I remember writing long stories when I was asked to at school - well, comparatively to others for my age/grade/form.
I hope the story is good. I'd be surprised if it won because of the Doctor Who theme but if the judge is open-minded enough, I stand a fair chance. That would SO make my day...
I'm going to think some more about that title and then I'll post it on YWO. I know I won't get the feedback in time to use it for revisions for the competition but any feed back is good and I could always try to pitch it to magazines, etc. We'll see.
I've been thinking of putting it on LJ too but I'm not sure you guys would be interested. Any thought?
