G gave me an orchid a while back. I think I've had it longer than a year, possibly two. It had flowers on when it came into the house but they withered and fell off. I looked for recommendations and chopped off the stalk that had carried the flowers right at the base and kept on looking after it. I knew they need water, but not too much, and they need sunlight, but not direct sunlight. I moved it to different places in the house to see if there was one it liked better and I think it's finally happy as it's growing a new leaf. That's a definite improvement compared to my previous attempts at orchid handling! I keep telling it that I'm really happy that it is growing but I'd love to see it flower again.
Yes, I talk to my plants. I also talk to my fish. I talk to flies and bees when they get into our house (I explain to them where the way out is and it seems to work although I have to say bees seem to be much better at understanding then flies). I even talk to birds I meet when I go out for a walk. In fact, I was talking to the newts and frogs in the tanks at Slimbridge last Saturday and I got some weird looks. I wasn't telling them about my dreams and hopes, I was telling them they were gorgeous. Everything should know it's appreciated, don't you think?
