My mom let my friend and I skip fourth block to go see it, because I basically am booked all weekend and our plans to go at midnight fell through. (I love my Mom). So we get there and we get sorda up close because I wanted big!ron and big!cedric and big!harry. Because I'm cool. But anyways, there were a whole bunch of kids in there. Which really annoys me. Because they were about 7 and annoyingly excited and hadn't even read the fourth book. But no matter, on to the review...
First, I would just like to say that, for me, the movies and books are entirely different things. While I do get frustrated that they leave stuff out, play around with the plot&characters, etc., I still love the movies. Especially this one. Why? Because it's my favorite story of all time being played out on an enormous screen in front of me. Because I can pop it in the DVD player anytime I want to get a Harry Potter kick, and I don't have to sit down for 15 hours and read the book. (well, not this one yet, but you get my point). So, there. I loved the movie. It was different than the book, and it certainly wasn't nearly as good as the book. But I expected both...basically everyone should.
Well, I thought the beginning was rushed. Actually, I thought the entire movie went by too fast. It was over way too soon, they could have made it another 30 minutes longer. Oh well.
WTF Moments (aka things I did not like):
-So about the Quidditch World Cup. I was DYING to see the Veela. Nope. And you didn't even find out who won! I was frustrated. And then the whole Barty Crouch, Jr. business was ridiculous! There was no Winky! That was all wrong. Oh well.
-Um, what was with Maxime picking something out of Hagrid's beard and eating it? Uh...weird. Just, no.
- Since when does Harry fly around the entire castle dodging
the towers, falling off of his broom, racing the dragon, and eventually killing the dragon all to get to the egg in the first task? Yeah, no.
- No SPEW. Yeah. AH.
- There was no reward money given to Harry for winning the tournament. Therefore no reward money for Harry not to want and to give to the twins. THEREFORE NO WEASLEY'S WIZARD WHEEZES. I don't know how they're going to put that into the movies without the twins having received the money...but whatever.
- Dumbledore about killing Harry after he pulled his name out of the cup. Not Dumbledore-y at all.
- There was no Sphinx in the maze. I was so looking forward to that. Oh well.
- Dancing lessons. They could easily have been cut to add in any of the things that were missing that I missed above. I mean, honestly.
- Myrtle in the prefects bathroom. BIG WTF? I mean, that was just creepy. Ah. Aidoa;f.
- No Snuffles. -tears for eternity-
- MOODY DIDN'T SAY 'CONSTANT VIGILANCE.' I mean, honestly.
YAY (aka -squee- moments, things they got right, good jobs on the acting, etc)
- Cedric. Oh. My. God. -SQUEE-. I think I almost died every time he smiled. He was absolutely gorgeous. And yeah.
- I think that Rupert did an amazing job playing jealous!Ron and omghermioneisagirl!Ron. And I think he did a perfect job asking her nonchalantly to the dance...it was exactly as I pictured it when I read it. And he was just adorable, IMO. (yes, I am a Ron-lover. So sue me.)
- I loved the Ron-Hermione fight scenes.
- I think the second task was perfect - minus the fact that Neville gave him the gillyweed other than Dobby doing it.
- I love love loved when Snape pushed up his sleeves slightly to hit Harry and Ron over the head. It was hilarious.
- The bouncing ferret scene, OMG. I was laughing SO hard.
- The Yule Ball was beautiful. The Great Hall was SO pretty.
- The whole Hermione/Krum relationship was wonderful.
- I loved when those girls were swooning over Krum, following him down by the lake. I thought it was absolutely hilarious.
- Fred and George cracked me up. I love them. XD
- Ron's dress robes. OMG, fucking hilarious.
Okay. The most important thing in the whole movie. THE GRAVEYARD SCENE WAS AMAZING. Absolutely perfect. Ah, Cedric dying. Voldemort said 'kill the spare' and I was like -GASPSOBNO- I cried when I read the book, and so I almost didn't watch when I knew it was coming. But I did, and AWE. Sad. No waterfall of tears yet, though, just a few trickling down my cheek. And then Voldemort. Oh. My. God. Ralph Fiennes was incredible. I, just, wow. And then the Voldemort-Harry duel was absolutely amazing, as well. Not to mention that I squeed a bit when we saw Cedric again, but that's not the point. It was incredibly done...absolutely perfect...exactly as I imagined it. And then Harry darted out and grabbed Cedric + Portkey and went back to the school. And the school's reaction was amazing. The celebration, then the confusing, then the realization, then the horror and shock. It was perfect. And when Harry threw himself over Cedric and would not let him go and was crying and just AH. I was bawling my eyes out. I'm about to cry just thinking about it. It was heartbreaking. And then Dumbledore's speech at the last feast or the funeral for Cedric or whatever it was...I don't know if he even said 'Remember Cedric Diggory', but it had me bawling all over again.
I'd just like to add that I loved the part between the trio at the very end. Especially with the whole Ron hopping through the window thing. It was cute. XD Lol. And yeah. I thought it was a good way to end it, sorda. -shrug-
So, I loved the movie. I admit it could have been MUCH better and it wasn't exactly canon, but I loved it nonetheless.
Hope you enjoyed reading my little rant thing. ♥
