I shared a table with buddies at APE this year, remember guys? It was almost two weeks ago?
Well I've been stretched so thin by school and whatever that I tragically didn't get around to posting about my MINICOMIC HAUL. And it was such a good haul!
Look, I misguidedly labeled everything just for you.
1,2: Trades! I think I only paid for half of the stuff in these pictures, there was so much trading going on. APE = den of hippies.
3: This is the part where I remind everyone that I did the pencils for the back cover of the Scott Pilgrim color mini. (Why did I put that in the picture?!)
4: Becky Cloonan was there and I bought her little sketchbook thingie and talked to her a little about the status of East Coast Rising... I hope she can get the rights to that worked out with Tokyopop, it's too good of a book to be stuck in publishing limbo.
5:
Jaephish and the Dark Rainbow! Read it! Mistah J himself was pretty cool, even if I didn't get much of a chance to talk to him.
6: Mine!
7: Roomie's! She had a 24 hour thing and silent comic she did last year.
8,9: Trades with our table neighbors. Coolest guys ever for serious. Protip: have table? Share snacks with neighbors. Instant buddies!
10: Comic by one of my friends' students I think. Very cool thing on the history of Shaolin monks in China.
11: Another trade! This time with a guy who either was wearing a top hat or rocking a monocle and spit curl. I'm not sure. Maybe he didn't look like that at all! He was gone just as fast as he appeared. Maybe I imagined him!
12: Trade with a buddy!
13: I hung out with this kid from Jfish's table a bunch and he knew this one girl who had a table there. And she did a few issues of Nightmares and Fairytales, which used to be my favorite comic before the original artist left it! But this girl was awesome and the covers are boss so I bought a couple. N&F does not work without the unsettlingly cute anime style. Oh gosh what was this artist's name... Camilla D'Errico! Get thee to a search engine.
14: Winner of the Isotope Minicomic Award! So cool. This guy was really nice too. He drew a little squiddy thing for me on the inside cover.
15: I honestly do not remember where I got this one. Might be by another student of a buddy.
1: Woohoo Dark Rainbow woo!
2: This kid didn't have a comic but he DID have a shitload of awesome buttons. Now if only he'd update his
DA!3: More stuff from the table neighbors. My roomie brought her button maker, so that's why one of the things is a button.
4: Even more trades hot damn! Note the rightmost one.
5: Some guy was handing out Obama buttons!
6: Got this one from mom, who stopped by for an hour or two because she is the coolest mom ever, by which I mean she loves small press stuff. (And is cool.)
7: Okay, holy shit, this was a good story, and the art is solid etc etc, but the part that blows my mind is that it was on one sheet of regular printer paper and cost me a dollar. The story unfolds as you unfold the paper! It even had a surprise ending! Holy shit! It's like the pinnacle of minicomic evolution. (wipes away tear)
8: I made a few pins on my roomie's button maker. Sleazy unicorns ftw... Ladies.
ANYHOW HERE IS MY MINI THAT I MADE. Ever wanted to know the secret history of the universe's noblest creatures? Ever wondered what happens when Mommy Unicorn and Daddy Unicorn have too many daiquiris? Well BUY SOME THEY ARE THREE BUCKS, I PRINTED WAY TOO MANY SO THERE ARE LOTS TO GO AROUND. (Even after I go giving them away with all my Christmas gifts to people. It's a free bonus on commishes! Buy 4 copies and I'll give you a clever pin or something! TOO MUCH PINK FOR JEMMA GET IT AWAY)
