This seems excessively retarded to me as an excuse for forcing online connection.
Glad I've never had an interest in the Need for Speed franchise since that means this doesn't impact me in the slightest. I can just imagine how abused that liked-for-ingame-cash thing is going end up being.

But yeah, their actual stated reason is indeed incredibly asinine. So, basically, they've turned it into a shitty Facebook game, for the most part, one that just so happens to still require a console to play. Ever the bar sinks lower and lower. Welp, I'm also glad I already had less than zero interest in the Need for Speed games. On the bright side, I guess, we won't have to worry about this for to awfully long, because when this fails utterly (not if but when), they'll just shut it down after a year or so, like they have all their other shitty Facebook games.
As for the PC Gamer free games stuff, I used to have that bookmarked from years ago, but I never actually checked it all that much, for whatever reason. It's been long enough, apparently, that I just noticed that they have unnecessarily and arbitrarily changed the url, because the link I had used to go to PC Gamer's "Best Free Games" Archive, but that url now just redirects to the main PC Gamer site. Rock, Paper Shotgun also has a free games section, which I similarly haven't checked in forever, once I stopped following that site altogether a while back (same as with PC Gamer, for that matter). Maybe I should start checking into at least that much of their sites again, though.
