Questions and Answers

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January? I have to say, my output seems a little predictable this year. Except for Angie/Peggy, but I'm not sure that counts because Angie didn't even exist at the beginning of 2015.

What's your own favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest? I don't know that I can pick any of them? In looking over my fic, I like my output better than I remembered, but I didn't fall in love with much this year. Maybe "Face the Music".

Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them? See above re. predictability. I started what was going to be a longer story with an unusual structure (flashbacks, letters), but got stalled on it fairly quickly. One of my issues with writing at the moment is that it all feels rather stale. I need to consider how to mix it up, get fresh, find new fandoms or ideas.

Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year? Goals post will go up later today.

From my past year of writing, what was...

My best story of this year: Probably "Face the Music".

My most popular story of this year: "The Right Partner", with both the most hits and the most kudos. That's no surprise -- large fandom, written for a Big Bang, pairings (Steve/Peggy and Peggy/Angie) with a following, contains porn.

Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: Nothing comes to mind.

Most fun story to write: "Let's Go Giants"

Story with the single sexiest moment: "The Right Partner", which I started basically as an excuse to write Steve/Peggy smut. The fact that it ended up being more complex and interesting was just a bonus.

Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: I got to spend more time with Angie when I wrote "The Right Partner" and that was nice, although I don't know that it shifted my thoughts on her much.

Hardest story to write: All of them? I'll go with "Rescue" because it was probably the longest from start to completion, and I had to scrap chunks of it a couple of times.

Biggest Disappointment: Let's just say I'm not looking forward to writing my goals wrap-up. I'll hold those thoughts for now.

Biggest Surprise: That I like so much of my flashfic as well as I do, after reading through it again.

Most Unintentionally Telling Story: Hello, thousands of words of OTP porn.

In Conclusion

I find it interesting that so many of these stories are flashfic written to prompts, and (as mentioned above) that I like them better with some distance. What's missing is writing my own ideas, in part because I haven't been struck with enough ideas to write -- and when I have been hit with an idea, more often than not the writing has fizzled when I don't have a deadline to push toward. (I doubt I would have finished "The Right Partner" or "Face the Music" if they hadn't been Big Bang stories.) I've always known that deadlines are helpful to me, but I still miss the rush of inspiration. There hasn't been as much of that lately. But more on that when I get to my goals post. Stay tuned.
