It's time to play the music. It's time to light the lights.

Saw the The Muppets tonight. I am so, so happy. It just... worked. Hit all the right notes, all the right emotional chords, everything I wanted out of a Muppet movie.

I don't want to say too much, because there were some wonderful surprises that I wouldn't want to spoil for anyone, but I will say this: if you know the Muppets, if you love the Muppets, you must see this movie. The movie is kid-friendly, but it was clearly not written for kids. Its audience is the old-school fans, of the TV show and the original movies. There were some great call-backs to both, especially The Muppet Movie (it makes me so sad that the soundtrack to that seems to be out of print -- I have a compilation with a few tracks, but it's missing some key ones), but it wasn't even really the references as it is the whole feel of the movie. The love for the original show and characters comes through in every single frame. And of course it was hilarious -- A, T, and I all laughed our heads off, and even just thinking back to bits of it can make me grin all over again. So much recommended.

And can I just tell you how I relieved I am? This is my childhood, you know. If they had screwed up this movie, I would never have forgiven them. (
missmediajunkie sums up my pre-movie trepidation quite nicely.) Fortunately, my cherished memories are not only intact, they've been burnished even more brightly. Thanks, Hollywood! Seriously.
