Okay, here you go. On Thursday Mom, Dad, and I visited the University of Findlay, in Findlay, Ohio. I liked it a lot. The barn is about four miles from the main campus. It was kinda hard to tell what the barn is like during the school year, because most of the horses were gone for the summer, and the few people who were there were busily powerwashing one of the arenas. I say arenas, for there were several. :)
One of the girls who took the tour with us is going to be pre-vet, so we visited the pre-vet barn as well. This girl, Julianne, was petite, wearing delicate little sandals, white capri's, and a cute little short sleeved shirt. She arrived with her parents in a Lexus. Our tour guide, Lisa had fun telling her stuff like, "and here's where you will castrate pigs. And here's where you will de-horn the goats, which you can do either by cutting, or by burning. And here's where you'll learn to sit a sheep. You rock a sheep back into a sitting position, and it paralyzes it (painlessly, I'm told). Then you can do whatever you want without getting beat up by a sheep. Of course, the sheep are very big, and some of the freshmen are very small, so sometimes it takes two or three of them to sit a sheep. It's very entertaining." LOL. Can I audit the sheep-sitting class?
The main campus was very pretty. We had a different tour guide for this part. She told us (among other things) that the average class size is 20, which, while significantly larger than the two I'm used to, is still very small for a college. The dorms were quite small, but I expected that. The furniture is all stackable, so you and your roommate can arrange it pretty much however you want. The room also hooks up to really fast internet, and cable TV. When they think we'll have time to watch TV, I have no idea. We didn't get to see the cafeteria because it was locked, but we ate lunch at The Cave, a cafe in one of the buildings on campus. It was really good. Lisa told us that we were a good tour family, because we asked lots of questions.
After the tour, we visited the town a little. They have almost every kind of fast food imaginable, and several pizza places. It's a college town alright. Of course, they also had KFC, a barbecue place, and a Japanese Steakhouse. But my two favorite places will deffinately be the Stately Raven, and Coffee Amici. The Stately Raven is a book store that's just opening. In fact, they weren't open for business yet, but they let us look around anyway. The store building is actually an old church, so it's made out of stone, and it has stained glass windows. It's really cool inside too. They have murals on the walls, old Victorian style chairs, and a really cool staircase. Coffee Amici is a little coffee shop that has live entertainment in the evenings. Weekend evenings, anyway. Friday is open mic night. That ought to be good for a laugh. And they make more than just coffee (although, if I ever learn to drink coffee, it will probably be in college). They make a very tasty frozen mocha, and a yummy raspberry smoothie, among other things.
And if I can't come home for weekends, I have my choice of churches. There's a Baptist Church, a Lutheran Church, a Catholic Church, several Apostolic Churches, a Presbyterian Church, a Church of God, inc. (yes, that's Church of God, incorporated), and a Church of Christ, Scientist. I'm thinking the Baptist and Lutheran churches are probably my best bets. :) Dad thinks the town of Findlay is kind of "frumpy", but I like it. It's going to be quite a transition, going to college. It will be nice not to have to learn to live in the big city at the same time.
