For many months now, I've been head over heels for Phil and Kaja Foglio's 'gaslamp fantasy' graphic story, Girl Genius. Like HP, It has a world of wonderful improbable people, objects, and governments. Unlike HP, it has a female main protagonist. A kick ass, self-rescuing, mad scientist female protagonist who I simply adore. I can't tell you everything there is to love about this, I just start to blather when I try.
You can read the story to date for free, starting
here. It updates M-W-F. You can also buy actual dead trees editions of the current eleven volumes of the story, except that several are out of print. The Foglios have been running a kickstarter to raise enough money to publish volume 12, and reprint all the earlier ones. They have succeeded - they will all shortly be in print again. They have added a new stretch goal - if they can raise enough funding, they will hire a business manager, who will hopefully help them bring their wonderful story and art to a wider audience, and keep the business end of things running smoothly enough they won't have to go to such lengths to make new print runs happen. I'd really like to see them bring their business to the next level, which means they can make more cool stuff for me to buy from them.
Because all the stretch goals so far have been unlocked, a mere $10 pledge will get you all twelve volumes in PDF form. This is an unbelievable deal - normally each volume in digital form is that much.
