Two Book Reviews and some stuff!

Aug 02, 2006 20:17

as you may have already guessed, by job is hella boring and leads me to read for about 8 hours a day which may seem fantastic, but actually very boring and sad. i don't want to read books so fast, they don't sink in. well, on to the reviews.

Memoirs of a Muse-Lara Vapnyar
I thought this book was going to be different than it was. I thought it was going to be torrid and interesting about sex and literature (my two favorite things!), but it wasn't. it was about falling into a life that isn't really you. Even though the main character got what she wanted and became a muse to a novelist, he wasn't a good novelist or a particularly good person. She was in it for all the wrong reasons, she was more of a live in groupie than anything else. The book depressed me because I can easily see myself falling into that role. I'd rather keep it about sex and literature and keep my self-respect thank you very much!

The Little Balloonist - Linda Donn
Once again, I thought that this was going to be way more interesting than it actually was. The story of the first woman hot-air balloonist. France, Napoleon. It gets an "eh" from me.

In other news, my brain is beginning to drift back to Ithaca and all the stuff that needs to get done between now and then. I don't think it'll be a problem, but I still need to get transcripts sent from my summer class and sign up for another class before school starts (begging email to professor already sent). I'd like to get out to Ithaca this weekend and slap some paint on the walls with or without my family there with me. I have no problem throwing down a tent somewhere since I haven't turned the electricity on yet.
