Took Owen on a couple of tall ships docked down by all the festivities in town and got to wander aboard the Lady Washington - aka the Interceptor. Fastest ship in the Caribbean, loves.

Locally, and supposedly worldwide though I can't for the life of me figure out where else they are doing it, you can go watch Serenity as a benefit for Equality Now. The event started last year thanks to a group of Serenity/Firefly/Whedon fans. The screenings are held on Joss' birthday, and the proceeds go to a charity he supports. He says:

There are two ways to fight a battle like ours. One is to whisper in the ear of the masses, try subtlely and gradually to change the gender expectations and mythic structures of our culture. That's me. The other is to step up and confront the thousands of atrocities that are taking place around the world on an immediate, one-by-one basis. That's a great deal harder, and that's Equality Now. It's not about politics; it's about basic human decency.

Buffy comic #4 comes out this week! With the demise of Veronica Mars, this will be the first time in a decade I won't have a television show depicting a plucky and badass blonde teenage girl and her cadre of trusty sidekicks. Boo to that.
