Alex did a terrific job on the soul transference thing for phoenix_rising_. He's a great kid, I swear. Also, the levitation training is going great! Tossed him off the building a couple of times and he almost got the hang of it! He probably would have done better if those silly gargs hadn't kept trying to catch him. Like I'd let him hit the ground. Give me a little credit.

Besides, he'd probably just bounce anyway.

All this life and death stuff has got me thinking, though, which is never a good thing. I've never really understood why mortals are so scared to die, so scared to let go of this existence. As an immortal, I've been told that I wouldn't understand, since I don't have the fear of true death in me.

The thing is, I just don't see the problem with it.

Mortals and immortals... we simply have different ways of living. Immortals are eternal. My people can not have children, not with each other (at least, not very often and only in extremely rare circumstances, the final judgment call of which is made by Avalon Herself). Sure, we got a few halflings running around here and there (*coughsMerlincoughs*), but most of them are mortals, too. Most of you people - you live, you breed, you die. You're sort of immortal in that sense, in that your children will go on and have children of their own and so on down the line, assuming you all don't kill yourselves, of course.

For us, we just are. Forever. We don't get tired of living, because living is all we have. Our future is ourselves, not some offspring of some kind, and we will remain for all time. It really works for us, but I promise you it would not work for you mortals.

A mortal made immortal usually doesn't cope with it well. Just because you're living forever, doesn't mean you ever truly break free of the mind set that you have a limited time to exist. I've seen so many mortals that wished to live forever, then sit around in terrible unhappiness because of it.

It's quite silly, really. I certainly would never ask to be made mortal. Why would any of you ask to be made immortal? We are what we are, after all.
