This and That

Thank goodness for federal holidays and overnight buses, that's all I have to say. By the grace of them, I'll be in Minneapolis Friday night to Monday night, and back in the city in time to take a nap at my desk before work Tuesday.

Went to the Art Institute of Chicago this weekend with my housemates. The new Modern Wing is phenomenal, light and open and looking out on downtown, and its collection absorbed all my attention for the better part of two hours. (Anne took to looking at me like I was a zombie. Zombie art-lover? Could that be the latest sub-genre for urban fantasy to tackle?) I made the pilgrimage to my Impressionists, of course, and giggled like the six-year-old that I am at the wine exhibit - complete with a goblet that had a dirty engraving at the bottom to induce patrons to go bottoms up faster.

Better yet, I'm going back tonight for the exhibit on Japanese scrolls.

Four of us from the office took a lunch-hour walk to the Daley Plaza Farmer's Market, which apparently runs through the end of October, and I filled my head with revels of all the possible things to bring home for my mama for her birthday in that month. The weather's gorgeous, and predicted to stay that way until a (please please please) rainstorm the night I come back.
