Mexico but really fandom and /runs away

A few funny/strange things I´ve noticed here.

- The music people at our church are particularly fond of a song to the tune of Blowin´ in the Wind (though with different lyrics)...I wonder what Bob Dylan would think of that? I don´t KNOW his feelings, but his music tends to suggest he wasn´t exactly a churchy-type person.

- The nuns keep a small tupperware bowl next to the kitchen sink with diluted dish soap for when they wash up so they don´t overuse...but they put two or three lemon halves in the dish. Do you suppose everyone just likes lemon-scented soap??

- The "dollar" sign is also used for the peso, making buying fruit at the market always something of a surprise.

- The one time I put a load of laundry in the dryer instead of hanging it on the line is the one time I had forgotten a tube of chapstick in my pocket, and now my whites have red chapstick marks all over them - energy conservation karma.

- Not having paved roads doesn´t mean not having loud, obnoxious car alarms - it just means everyone actually has a reason to drive SUVs.

- Buses are hilarious when they can barely go faster than pedestrians. But not when they have sharp bits sticking out of the seats to puncture the unwary.

Sister Laura´s surgery went well, and she´s back home, much the same as she ever was but with a heavily padded arm and a sling. I can only pray Kali´s surgery on Tuesday morning goes as well.

But the real thing that spurred me to write was this post over on metafandom, the third entry down about guidelines for first-time authors. I read it, my eyes went O.O and I was tempted to run to GoogleDocs and delete everything I´d ever written before I was could post it and make those mistakes. Oh, I know they´re not huge, and thank God I have a responsible beta who´s making sure my grammar errors don´t see the light of day, but I kind of just wanted to go /cry. After I go post on EVERY SINGLE WIP I´m currently reading, since apparently they don´t get enough love (not because I want people to recognize my name since, duh, I won´t be posting anything in this scenario). It was...extremely disheartening, and I´m not even sure why, but all the anxiety I ever had about starting to write fic sort of welled back up. I know that wasn´t the OP´s intention but. *sigh*

I´ve actually got two fics nearing first chapter status, one each in Doctor Who and Princess Tutu. I´m considering holding off on posting until I have a couple chapters, so as to give a substantial amount for people to dig into...and get hooked on, one can only hope.

And, of course, because it´s exactly what I needed, looking for Fakiru fics this weekend I discovered that I´m basically writing a cliché in the pairing. >.<;;; WONDERFUL.

Generally, today appears to have been one of those days I should´ve just put my head back under the covers, internet-wise.

Edited to say that I´ve decided to post my fiction here but to send it to comms with my alternate (and completely separate, since it´s read by my family and this is NOT family-safe) ficcing-and-reccing journal. So if you see some of my posted under another name, will you tell me about it before calling plagiarism? It may just be me being sekritive. *blushes*
