on the road again
yesterday was a successful if slightly absurd daytrip to philly, on extremely short notice... i flew in at 9:30am, sat in the airport for 2 hours, was picked up by a coworker for lunch, went to a 1pm meeting, and had to leave at 2:15 to catch my flight out (vagaries of a last-minute meeting bump from 11am to 1pm). which would have been fine except that we started a half-hour late waiting for the CTO and CIO, and they had 2 other people speaking before me... so i fidgeted until 1:30, tried to look interested until 1:50, and then gave a 1-hr overview in 20 minutes, took 5 minutes of questions, and ran out the door. seemed like madness to me, but the account team sent me a massively obsequious thankyou note and said I nailed it. considering it's a 7-figure deal, i figure if they're happy, i'm happy...
and today i'm overnighting LA. free upgrades on the way out = good. (they actually had a decent grilled chicken salad for lunch.) mango smoothie at the airport also = good. "devil wears prada" on the long hop = fluffy schlock. setting up a solution i've only read about so far, for a high-stakes demo first thing tomorrow morning = fear. wish me luck!
