The Lion King

Jason and I got to see The Lion King traveling Broadway production Saturday night, and it was awesome!

I know this post won't provide any earth shattering critique for those of you who read it, but I still felt like I have a few loose cents that I wanted to toss in on the subject.

Other than us being seated too far to the right of the stage (they had some lights set up that blocked our view of a few interactions between the characters) I have really no complaints about the production. The performances were wonderful, and it seemed like all the actors/singers were still having a good time performing the show. The only thing that kept tripping me up is the difference in how the actors recited their lines and phrases that were directly from the movie. I know that they really can't, and shouldn't, be exactly like the movie, but when that's all you have to compare it to, it's hard to remove those prejudices before said lines were spoken.

Also,we had a white Simba for our production, and while it was a little surprising when he swung onto the stage for his entrance ("Hello, whitey!") since I was assuming he'd be black like most of the other cast, that of course doesn't add or take anything away from his performance. It was obvious that he was giving it his all, since his chest paint was smearing and running due to the amount of sweat he was generating. He was, like the rest of the cast, perfect.

So, yeah, it was a fun evening. I hope everyone else had a great weekend, too.

Here's to a good week for us all!
