Halloween was a cold night.october 31st. we flew out to minnesota arrived around 3pm. i'll never forget that day. the first step in grandpas house, the smell. when i say smell, it's nothing of disgust. The smell of my nanas soap, the smell of him. his cologne seemed fresh in the air. you never forget how your grandparents house smells.of comfort. he was a amazing man. we talked of good times until late night.all the grand children got a chance to write a story of one favorite memory with grandpa. mine was when i was 13. once my brothers and i turned 13, my mom would fly us out solo to go stay with my grandpa. it was my year this time. we zig-zagged thru minnesota and wisconsin; hitting lake superior, and many a campgrounds. He took me and my cousins to cliffs we could jump off of, where the water depth was endless. although he did not partake in the jumping, he showed us the place so we could have the experience. i love him for that. he was always so warm.
when we came down for dereks graduation,i felt like i really got to know him more. how silly and funny he was. ever hear the term barking spiders? i loved him.and how i will miss him.
i'm getting a tattoo. Zeller. its official now, i Always contemplated it but now it's no question. and i think derek will do it too.
