[ooc] "My" Toph meme
- Toph knows chinese braille. ... Since she's from a rich influential family, she had good education. She was home-schooled.
- Toph doesn't... really... mind libraries. Even though she can't read the books. It's a nice quiet place to go to when she wants to. Moreover she can tell whenever there are people coming, so that she can move away in time to avoid the "... but you can't read the books?" questions/comments.
EDIT!: I've played Toph reading books in braille in-game. Also, I went back to recap canon, and Toph actually says "I've held books before, and I gotta tell you, they don't exactly do it for me." in The Library. I KNOW. But I'm still playing Toph as knowing braille, though, because seriously what did she do/learn in her 12 years at home. I take it books in braille are not common, so she doesn't expect libraries to have books in braille. Camp is speshual that way. Also she doesn't really like reading because it's kinda boring and reminds her she's blind, but hey, she was bored in camp.
EDIT!2: O canon why do you have to crush my hopes like that ;o; Toph says "I can't even read!" in Sokka's Master, which immediately pinged me. I admit, I'm still not willing to say that Toph cannot read braille, because I honestly don't know what she was doing in her 12 years of living at home. It seems really weird if all she did all day was to hang around in the garden or something, and why wouldn't her parents hire her a tutor for learning if they did for earthbending? ... eh. Thoughts, anyone?
OKAY I WILL BE AVOIDING THINGS ABOUT READING IN CAMP.
- Toph still loves and misses her parents and stuff. Wait, this is canon. But she does! And she really hopes that they'd understand why she left home without telling them and welcome her back with open arms when she returns. (I as a viewer doubt they'd understand, though Toph thinks there's a chance. :/ ) And even though she was treated like a fragile girl with little freedom at home, she believes that her parents were just very protective and trying their best to keep their blind daughter safe.
- Toph has hormones has no real hormones has hormones has no real hormones -- I'll get back to this in time. :I She's not gonna be openly showing this kind of affection any time soon.
EDIT!: Pretty safe to say that she canonly has a crush on Sokka. orz. Just that I... don't think I'll be playing this up too much, because she's getting exposed to and forming relationships with a lot more people in camp than she does in canon.
- Toph does bathe/shower. HAHA! Just not everyday. Katara/the rest used to make her do it and she doesn't dislike it. But since she's alone now, she takes a shower only whenever she feels uncomfortable enough. And anyway, a while after her shower, she'll lie and roll around on the ground for a bit. Just for a nice new coat of dirt. She's hardly ever really clean since she doesn't have a reason to keep clean.
- Apparently the way Toph's name is written changes in canon. And then changes back again. Uh. I'm sticking to the "拓芙" on her passport instead of the "托夫", though, because it makes more sense for her name to mean "supported lotus", what with her parents.
- Toph's nose-picking: she does it mostly to disgust/annoy/make people react, not because she... uh, particularly enjoys nose-picking. Spitting is the same, but she'd also do the spitting when she's hyped up on BADASS. I dunno, being disgusting makes you appear/feel manly and macho and badass, I guess?
EDIT!: NOW I THINK Toph does enjoy nosepicking and toepicking. Especially toepicking, oh man. Spitting more for reaction, yes, but it's not like she doesn't spit for the helluvit!
- Toph is ultimately still only 12 years old. She will be childish and argue/snark for the sake of doing so, never mind whether her arguments make sense. If they do, great! If they don't... well you're just dumb. Something like that.
- Toph knows random weirdass fine arts things like flower arrangement and music and stuff. She had lessons when she was at home, because she was supposed to grow up to be a fine pretty blind girl with explicit manners. Flower arrangement she's not so good at, because of the seeing thing, but she vaguely knows what goes where, and can actually make them look relatively decent! She doesn't get the point of it though. Music- she probably had lessons in it as well, and knows how to play an instrument too. Not particularly good at it, because she doesn't have the patience. She probably played something like the guzheng. Or pipa; I haven't decided.
So apparently I should think a bit harder when I decide to do memes like this. Most of these have come up in-game, which is why I wrote them down. ... ah? When I think of more stuff I'll add on to this. And I'll make some kind of note on my sticky compliation post in this journal when I make edits.
