Lois might love Clark and all but she did not love the fact that he woke at the ass crack of dawn at all. It was like he was put on this planet to purposefully wake her up. Okay, he was no Lucy waking her up in the middle of the night but anything pre eight am deserved severe glaring and general attitude. She might have lived with the General for ( Read more... )

"Good morning, Sunshine," Clark calmly replies, and presses a warm cup of coffee into Lois' hand with a fond yet knowing smile. He drops a quick kiss to her tousled hair and turns back into the kitchen and back to what had, in actuality, not been much noise at all.

"I brought you breakfast," he says over one shoulder. "Sit down at the table, I'll bring it out."

She leaned into the kiss, wrapping her hands around the cup. It was no Sullivan Special but hey, Lois wasn't about to turn down a cup of coffee.

"Hmmm, okay you might be inching off my bad list Smallville. Coffee and breakfast," Lois said, sliding a hand around his waist and pressing against him for a moment. Slipping away she headed towards the table and slid into a chair. Biting her lip as she pulled a newspaper over, Lois began to scan the headlines. "This de Worde guy isn't actually half bad. A little focused on age and he's no me but not bad. And some of the stories- did you know there's an underwater city?"

"I did," Clark replies, plate in hand. He places it gently on the table in front of Lois and then settles into the adjacent chair. "I went down when it was first discovered. It's dangerous," he adds with a knowing look. Without having to ask, he already knows she'll want to see it. Now begins the process of steadily wearing him down.

"Ahuh, so's crossing the ro-boardwalk. And I hear that Compound can be pretty dangerous for your stomach at least," Lois replied, folding the paper in half and placing it to one side. Looking up at Clark steadily, Lois put on her best 'I'm not backing down Clark' faces and stared at him. "And so's half a dozen things I did at home regularly for a story, that you probably don't need to hear about right now. Look, I'm not going to go in unprepared and I wouldn't go in without an escort."

"I know exactly what you did back home for a story," Clark replies, and tucks his chin in enough to level Lois with a stern gaze. He knows it doesn't escape her that he was there, every time, looking out for her.

"Things are different here," he reminds her, and plucks a wedge of orange from her plate. "If something happened, it wouldn't be like back home. I can't do anything here," he adds, his expression briefly clouding as he takes a bite of the orange.

Lois smiled half guilty at the stern gaze, biting her lip as he stared at her. He was always there for her even when she didn't know about it and it was probably killing him that he couldn't stop her now- couldn't save her if she ever got in over her head. Reaching for his hand, Lois took it in her smaller one and tugged it towards her.

"I'm a big girl Smallville, I can look out for myself. But I don't want you to worry, I want you to come with me. Lois and Clark together in action with maybe a little outside help." Lois said rubbing the back of his hand with her thumb. Looking at him seriously, Lois ducked her head to catch his eyes. "Look at me Clark, you do a whole lot more than you realise even without your powers. Look around, you've not just made us a home, you've made a community."

"Thank you, Lois, I appreciate that, but listen. I don't think you're quite understanding me when I say it's dangerous." Clark takes her hand into both of his and gives it a reassuring squeeze, but his expression remains implacable. "Free-roaming zombie-type people, giant men with drills for hands, potentially unstable architecture… The list goes on. I'd never tell you what to do, you know that, but I am asking you, sincerely, please do not do this."

It sounds dangerous and she should be scared but she's not. She's Lois Lane, she doesn't do timid and frightened. She knows there's a story down there, she can just smell it but Clark means so much more to her than a headline. Even a really big, juicy, dangerous headline that could make her career here.

"If I miss out on a story Smallville, you know you're going to be sleeping on the couch for a month, right?" Lois asked, pressing her lips together before shaking her head. "And I reserve the right to change my mind."

"You're not missing out anything," Clark assures her, allowing a faint smile now that she's relented a bit. He doesn't mistake it as the war being over, but this particular battle is at least resolved. "The story was covered by De Worde this past summer."

"You're just saying that so that I don't kick you out of bed." Lois said, taking one of the orange slices and popping it in her mouth. With half a smile lingering on her lips, Lois stretched out her legs brushing against Clark's beneath the table. "Of course he did, he's the only reporter on the island except for me and you. I just want- I'm not the kind of girl who leaves a good impression, a lasting one sure but good? Not all the time? I just need a big scoop or a story to really get the island talking, you know?"
