i only joined because i read an article about how it can help freelancers with marketing, and i am pretty set on full-to-part-time freelancing as post-graduation next step. i have added a bunch of publications and museums. every time i start working on a new project, publish an article, visit a gallery, have an opening, screen a film,or pick up a gig, i can publish it as a way of spreading the word, and my twitter profile has a link to my online portfolio as well.

i can also stalk the people i admire (like michelle goodman, freelancer extraodinaire), and get followers based on my content (for example, a job classifieds site is now following me, which could be helpful down the line).

right now i am between projects (and still in school), so i will probably be using it for more social purposes. i like that it forces succinctness, as i am prone to verbosity (or hadn't you noticed). i think, maybe i could be hilarious? that my mix of insight, hustle, and entertainment value could land me a big fish? or at least give me the 7-10 minutes of break time i used to use for smoking...

i think it might have implications for my artmaking, as well, as i am becoming more interested in socially manipulative technologies and the collective cultural consciousness/unconscious/subconscious and am already using stuff like youtube and skype and hopefully someday livejournal if i can work it out.

it is also the epitome of narcissism. but all social networking and internet publishing is pretty much there, anyway. just like literally everything else on the internet, the vast majority of content is dismissible, but there's genius to be found.
