i'm trying my hand at this whole "selling artwork" thing. it's going...pretty well, actually. artists like me, who are unable to commodify their work based on legal or physical or temporal or material restrictions, etc, need to find new ways to sell if we're going to sell. i think of what i'm doing as like a dj who makes a free mixtape (in this case, my videos, which are free and available to anyone who wants them), in the hope that people will invest in ticket sales and merchandise (except in this case:
I have just printed an extremely limited edition of 50 posters that are inspired by the movie lightbox from my MFA thesis installation, "pleasure, babe".
You can watch this video on www.livejournal.com
pleasure, babe from

Vimeo.
The design is a graphic representation of the poem used in "pleasure, babe" in its entirety, designed to echo the placement, size, and order of the text as it appears in the video. These posters are 11x17 inches, printed on high-quality 100lb Gloss Text paper, and ready to frame and hang.
Each poster is also hand-numbered. Numbers 1-10 are available for $100 each, and are also hand-signed with a personal note from me, the artist. Numbers 11-30 are available for $75, and are hand signed. Numbers 31-50 are $50, and hand-initialed. Number 50 has been spoken for. These are the only posters of their kind that will ever be made, so once this edition has been sold, the posters will not be available for purchase.
As an artist utilizing appropriated footage and operating within the limits of fair use, I am unable to make money from selling my video work. However, the text I use in my pieces is entirely original. This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to invest in my art practice by purchasing your own small piece of "pleasure, babe". Please contact me if you are interested, and let me know which of the three sets of numbered prints you would prefer to select from. I will ship your poster in a protective tube, free of charge (domestically), in time for the holidays. )
so yes, this is me putting out my hat, as amanda palmer would say.
