It's Been A Long, Long Time Coming . . .
. . . but I know a change is gonna come.
Hey, y'all. It's the lovely miss_begonia's birthday!
I am beyond bummed that I am not there to celebrate in person, but -- near or far -- there is much to celebrate about having a miss_begonia in my life.
You'd be hard pressed to find a better roommate or a better friend. I'm assuming you all know this, but she's pretty awesome. Funny, smart, talented, just the right amount of sarcastic, generous with her time and herself, dedicated and committed to making the world a better place.
She's had quite a year! She got a graduate degree, several new jobs, and -- oh yeah, just a little thing -- finished a novel! Which I have no doubt will be available in a bookstore near you by her next birthday. And in her spare time, she's helping a bunch of teenager navigate the world on their own complicated terms. She's a full-service institution.
In short, she's swell, and I am only sorry that she's holding down the home fort without me. Believe me when I tell you, there will be feasting and dancing in Murdertown this year (tm The Mountain Goats. Also, the Bible) when I return.
It's not nearly enough, but here are 28 songs to celebrate this grand occasion. They sort of accidentally mostly turned into a mix about my longing to go home, but I had the best of intentions.
