Day 1 of NaNo, and
maudgonne has already lapped me. Still, for me, about a thousand words in one hour isn't too shabby.
I'm really trying to work on just writing without stopping to revise midstream, as is my wont.
In other news:
Joss
Whedon returns to television.
With bonus Eliza Dushku! And a really intriguing premise.
Not counting Supernatural and Friday Night Lights, which are, as we know, my happy places, I'm finding that I'm really enjoying several shows this tv season quite a lot.
This week's Chuck, with its homage to The O.C.'s
The Countdown was hysterical. I love how they're carefully walking the line between comedy and drama, keeping things light, but also letting us see the little dramatic moments in Chuck's life, and how his secret spy life affects those around him. And yes,
cianconnell, next week does, indeed, feature guest star Matt Bomer, so there's that.
I know that Heroes is having quite a slow start to its sophomore season, but sandwiched between Chuck and Journeyman, which I'm also still digging, it makes my Monday nights a happy place.
The other new show that I adore is Pushing Daisies. It just gets better and better each week, fully committing to its nutty premise, and undercutting the sugary fairy-tale sweetness with much-welcomed doses of sarcasm and dark humor. I like that it's like a real fairy tale, in that it tends to take on some pretty dark themes amongst its cotton-candy colors. And I love the matter-of-fact blending of fancy and film noir that it's so far managed to sustain. Plus, I want to wear almost everything Chuck puts on. The costumes are gorgeous.
Like Mondays, Wednesdays are pretty much a happy bill of Pushing Daisies, Gossip Girl and Dirty Sexy Money, which totally fooled me last night with the whole Simon Elder deal. It's a night of fanciful fun.
And, of course, Supernatural on Thursdays is joined by Ugly Betty which is, as
miss_begonia and I were just discussing, having a really strong second season, including my favorite plotline so far -- Mark's Beauty and the Beast relationship. Add in time-shifted 30 Rock and The Office and that's three full nights of tv that I actually look forward to, and don't just watch mindlessly. That's a whole, whole lot for one season, for sure.
And since you've put up with my rambling, I leave you with a parting gift. This is my VCF Chris's daughter in her Halloween costume. She went as Max, from Where the Wild Things Are. And of course that costume is homemade, because my VCF Chris is insane.
Happy All Saints Day and El Dia de Lost Muertos to all!
