Now that I'm actually in this fandom, I can properly comment! 8D

That is something that gets dragged up a bit in fanfiction, that America loves coffee and England loves tea. Thing is, the event that would be referring to - America's boycotting of English tea to protest the tax - likely hasn't happened yet. As a result, there's no reason for America here to be all coffee obsessed.
And yes, that spanking should not have gotten that much of a fuss. Considering that this is colonial times, spanking a child for disobedience would be par for the course. Yes, England in the series was far nicer to America than that, but it wasn't exactly uncommon to beat a child with a birch rod.
Also, considering how the Nations seem to always be into whatever it is the country had going on at the time, you'd think America would already know a lot about tobacco and smoking. Like England said, some of his states build a huge part of their economy around the tobacco trade.
I'm just scratching my head at the forced smoking bit. That's got to be one of the most pointless kick-the-dog things I've seen. Not to mention that, as you said, it blatantly goes against canon. ("Now all I need is a pint of Guinness, but I'm too young to drink! :D")
I think Yoyo Yuki is trying to depict England as keeping America separate from his people... Which I'm pretty sure doesn't make sense (it most certainly doesn't represent the people who thought we should remain part of the British Empire - because in this version England is just freakin' PURE EVIL! and the people who felt that way didn't feel that way because they had Stockholm!) She comes off as dangerously xenophobic…
She’s got seven fics and four of them are rated M - three of those contain RAPE. Oh wait - two contain rape and another contains “mild” rape. WTF is “mild” rape?
And yet - somehow her Death Note fanfic is only rated T… Her fanfics are as Yoyo-ish as her writing and her stories…
Also the person they pair America with is funny given they‘ve turned England into a lovable sex maniac perv with rapey vibes at times in CANON… You can probably guess if you think about it. Although the fact that it’s England being demonized - that’s a pretty good hint as well…
