Sailor Moon: Informed attribues

Feb 15, 2011 21:49

I know it clashes with my big, bad image, but when I was a kid/young teenager I adored Sailor Moon beyond what was probably reasonable for a cheesy anime dub. (though I ended up buying all the manga available right quick. I still have a ton of the separate issues) Honestly, I still get a lump in my throat when someone mentions a chocolate parfait. (LOL)

Anyway the thing that always got my goat about it back then was in the story Usagi/Bunny/Serena is supposed to be heavier than the other girls. This gets mentioned fairly often. It goes beyond mere Hollywood Pudgy; there was literally no difference between the way she was drawn and the way the rest of the characters were; like particularly stretched out Barbie dolls.

I started on my way as an artist when I was 13, tracing Sailor Moon manga and hiding it under my bed. I gave up wanting to draw like Naoko Takeuchi a looong time ago, which I think is for the best.

Here, finally is my personal conception of Usagi as Princess Serenity.
