This is something I don't think most people think about. In the local section of newspapers (or even on the front page) sometimes they will have pictures of car accidents or someone’s house on fire. My issue is why? I understand writing an article about it but why take the picture? If it was for insurance purposes or legal purposes and someone by those type of companies sent someone out to take pictures of the accident or fire, that's fine but why do newspapers have people to go take pictures of those sorts of things to put in the paper.
Fire fighters do it to; I mean they seem almost proud of those pictures. Do we have a sick fascination with mortality? Because for me, being in a accident I feel like it's exploiting someone at the worst time in their life. I'm looking on-line at an account on flickr,
fire fighters flicker, and it's all pictures of car accidents and houses on fire, why? Did you ask that victim if you could post their pictures on-line? Because that's a huge part of their life and I am sure that they wouldn't want the worst day of their life to be shared publicly with hundreds of people.
I thought a fire fighters job was to help people, not exploit them. I can't understand why it's ok to post something that private and that traumatic. You see someone losing their house in a fire and you are going to just stand there snapping pictures as their entire life is slowly destroyed? Someone could have died in that house fire or that car accident you are taking pictures of and that person had their last few minutes alive in that place that you are taking pictures of; it's disgusting, it's exploitative and I don't understand why it's so acceptable in our society.
