In-Game Character Information
Name: Bart Allen
Series: DC Comics
Age: 16
Personality: A kid at heart, Bart acts more like six than sixteen years old. Always brimming with enthusiasm, he pours his heart and soul into everything he touches. While he tends to lose interest in his hobbies easily, he does love life and everything it has to offer. Even though his family situation hasn't always been the best, he's adapted to his life with childish glee and learned to make the most of anything. He's the one in the hallways loudly calling "helloooooo" to his friends - or total strangers! - and randomly singing just because it'd make a boring day zoom by faster. But he's also the one randomly consoling people and taking them down to Hogsmeade for some butterbeer; Bart truly cares about his environment and it shows.
That said, Bart has huge commitment issues. He likes the idea of something better than the finality of it; if someone tells him "it's a commitment," he'll jump and avoid it altogether. (That being said, if it is a commitment... that avoids the word altogether... Bart can actually cope. For some reason, only the word's a trigger.) Because of it, Bart hasn't been able to keep a steady girlfriend. He may truly love someone, but he also can't see himself being with her for the rest of his life... and dealing with something "for forever" scares him. If there isn't a way out, Bart mentally shuts down. He also can't deal with confinement (by extension, he has a weak form of claustrophobia). At heart, he's an escapist who dives into something else to avoid the consequences.
However, he's also one of the bravest people around. He will not hesitate to dive right into whatever needs to be done, even if he can't commit to it. Need to go save the world from dinosaurs? Can't finish that algebra assignment? Want to go grab some pie? Bart's always up for an adventure, and it shows. Rarely thinking about the consequences, he smashes right into action and punches his obstacles in the face.
Like everyone, Bart has his weaknesses. His friends and family are the biggest ones - though pie and his dog Dax - and he will do anything to protect them. He's also very partial towards art - he wants to go to art school after Hogwarts - and most forms of 90's music (barring boy bands; those are just weird). As a last note, Bart fails to grasp the meaning of "privacy" and "personal space." Unless the other party makes a big deal, Bart will get in your face and be very comfortable with no set boundaries! He didn't grow up with the idea that people need room to breathe - mainly because his own family was so close-knit - so it'll take him a while to realize that some people just... need their space.
Background: [NB: I'm being purposefully vague about Tim, Kon, Thad, and other canonmates in case Bart ever gets them; I'm also being vague on whether or not superheroes like Batman actually exist. In Bart's case, the Flash Family doesn't exist.]
The son of teenagers Don Allen and Meloni Thawne, Bart and his twin brother Thaddeus were the results of an ill-timed affair. Don Allen, newly graduated from the Salem Institute, had been involved with risky magic-world affairs and was executed by America's Ministry of Magic before the Allens could clear their son's name. Meloni had simply loved a guy who was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Meloni's father, Professor Thawne, refused to raise both children (there was no way a teenage girl could handle twins), so Bart was placed in Iris Allen's care.
While his grandmother loved him, she also couldn't handle a grandkid. Barry had been involved in magic world affairs - and non-magical "let's go save the world" affairs - and had "died" fighting off various dark wizards in Central City. Iris wanted to care for Bart longer, but she felt that Bart wouldn't be safe in her care: whoever hurt Barry and Don might come back for Bart. By Bart's fourth birthday, Max Mercury had become Bart's legal guardian.
Moving to Manchester, Alabama, Bart's life seemed pretty set. When he'd turn eleven, he'd attend the Salem Wizards Institute and become a full-fledged wizard like his grandfather. In the meantime, he'd spend summers in Alabama and relax with his cool older uncle who knew best.
To Bart's surprise, he received a letter from Hogwarts the summer of his eleventh birthday. Max revealed then that Hogwarts had been his alma mater - and as long as Bart would live under his roof, Bart would attend Max's old school, not Don's or Barry's. At first, Bart didn't know how to handle the news. He'd dreamed of attending the Institute for years! He'd even planned meet-ups! Salem was going to be... Salem was... no longer a possibility.
So he braced himself for his new fate, took a plane to London, and became a student at Hogwarts. His first year was largely uneventful, or well...as uneventful as it could be for a ADHD kid who literally bounced off the walls every time he moved. He racked up detentions faster than most kids could eat candy; earned himself nicknames among the various professors; and well? Let's just say that "I'm pulling a Bart" became part of most kids' vernacular after a few years. However, Bart did discover something valuable from his first year: he was incredibly talented in time magic. While most kids struggled with the mere concept, Bart could already cast complicated spells with ease... and in some cases? He didn't even need to say anything; his body would already know what to do.
During the summers, Bart returned to Alabama to live with Uncle Max and his daughter Helen. While he polished his time magic skills, Bart also became involved with the local kids - namely, Preston and Carol - and learned how to keep his magic a secret from prying busybodies. (He lived in the South: the busybodies would come up whether he liked it or not.) From that summer on, Bart had two distinctive groups of friends: his wizarding friends from school and his muggle friends who didn't know better. (Except that Carol totally knew about his magic: Bart blew it after their fifth meeting and he eventually confessed to everything.)
The summer before his 4th year, Bart signed up for summer camp on a whim. There, he met Tim Drake and Conner Kent. Their friendship was the thing of legend: they originally thought they couldn't get along, but they became thicker than glue.
Coincidentally, they shared a common interest in superheroes and so? They started writing and drawing their own issues of a comic book called "Young Justice" ( Tim and Kon wrote; Bart drew).
Young Justice became the unofficial name of their group after it expanded: Conner's almost-girlfriend Cassie, Bart's friend-that-was-a-girl Cissie, and Greta wanted in. From there, these six derps created their own superhero adventures while having fun at camp... and even when they left, they continued to keep in contact over IMs, emails, and the like. Their "derpy summer camp" group even evolved into a LARP superhero group, much to Tim's embarrassment. (Contact became difficult during the school year: owls simply weren't as efficient as the internet! However, they were still tight.)
For Bart, summers simply were more eventful: he encountered Young Justice - and spent two weeks with them at summer camp; he met Thad again for the first time at the age of 15; and he learned of Max's almost-death.
In Bart's absence, Thad had also grown into a.... more interesting person. Brainwashed by Professor Zoom, Thad was convinced that Bart was the antithesis of everything Zoom stood for. Literally, Bart was the day to Thad's night. They had become complete and total polar opposites! They fought over simple things and even had all-out magic brawls before Max or Wally or someone came to interrupt the battle.
The summer before he returned to Hogwarts, Bart learned that Max could potentially die from cancer; so, Bart sobered and tried to remove the tumor with his own magic. While Bart could remove most of the tumor, he wasn't completely successful... and doctors had to do the rest. The experience was certainly something Bart wished to never re-live again: it was painful watching his invincible uncle crumble to something as simple as cancer. People in his year have noticed a remarkable change in their ever-loving, carefree Bart... but unless prodded and poked, Bart seems like the same "fun personified" guy he normally is.
Blood: Pureblood (but he considers himself half since he likes to ignore Professor Zoom at family reunions).
Preferred House: Gryffindor
Why you think they belong in this house? Bart's a Gryffindor because of his brash and impulsive personality. While he may not be the smartest or rational character, Bart's definitely one of the more courageous ones. He's always leaping into battle first - and while he doesn't always win, he always pours his heart into it.
School Year: 6th
Quidditch Position: All the spots're taken, so Bart'd like to be on reserve.
Would you like the character to possibly get a higher position? You want to put someone this impulsive in a position of authority? It wouldn't end well. AT ALL.

[There's the sound of shuffling papers for a couple of seconds...]
Hey guys!! I can't believe I lost my journal--- I mean, how lame is that? This thing'slikemylifelineandit's just a--- [takes a deep breath] Okay, let's try that again.
For those who don't remember me, I'm Bart! AKA one of the coolest American Gryffindors we've got! Is anyone up for a casual game of football? Like, British football? Because I spy an empty field calling our name!
It's official: last one there's a rotten egg! [with that, the journal immediately slams shut.]
Roleplay Sample:
Afternoons in Hogsmeade were Bart's favorite way to spend the weekend. Even though he couldn't buy butterbeer - they were sold out again - he still enjoyed trudging through the snow to admire the Christmas decorations. This wasn't Alabama by any means (Bart admittedly missed the Southern drawl and all of its quirks - the multiple "honeypies" and "sweethearts" included), but even Scotland went all-out for Jesus's birth. As Aunt Helen would say, "Thank god."
Making a mental note to decorate his commons later, Bart beamed as he stood before the window and carelessly drew patterns on it. The condensation ensured that his patterns would evaporate long after he'd return to Hogwarts - complete with his impulse purchases (seriously, Bart? Stuffed chocobos and phoenixes?) - but he didn't care. Half the fun was just randomly doing things because he could!
So, as he wildly pumped his fists in the air, Bart started humming as he wove through the crowds. People thought he was strange - this kid who could effortlessly speed through people like it was nothing - but Bart called himself normal.
"Hi," He greeted in his thick American accent as he walked through the door, "... Do you guys finally have butterbeer?"
Character name: Bart Allen
Canon Ability/Power: Super-speed
Why do you want to bring this into the game? /How is it important to your character? Super-speed, essentially, IS Bart. Without the ability to manipulate time, Bart wouldn't be the same person. In the DCU, all speedsters have the ability to tap into something called "the Speed Force." While it's just energy for most speedsters, Bart is the Speed Force.
What does it do? / How does it work? It allows Bart to travel at the speed of light or permanently retain information he reads at super-speed. (Basically, it works like super-speed in comic books: he moves at break-neck pace and lives in a world where everything else is super slow for him.)
How will this be translated to Hogwarts? In Hogwarts, Bart will have a Haste status effect that makes him run/walk/talk faster. It's like time magic - in fact, it IS time magic in Squarewarts - that went wonky. However, he still retains everything he reads/learns at super-speed. (It explains his good grades.)
How will you be limiting this power? Bart's status effect isn't reliable and only occasionally works; it can also wear him out if kept on longer. Bart may have an affinity for time magic, but he won't be doing it on other people without their explicit permission-- and he certainly won't be able to travel through time. Just manipulate it so that he can reach the dinner table in one second.
Do other characters know about this power? Only his canonmates would know about his power, as well as people who've observed Bart casting time magic spells before. Bart's not very good at hiding his abilities, but he can in times of need.
Anything else? Scarlet speedsters sure are hard to get ahold of. :|b They're always running off for no good reason.
