heres my opinion on downloading music about as clear as ive ever said it:
HerHopelessHero: okay, this has nothing to really do with anything, i just wanna throw my point of view out there: as a music listener, downloading music helps me discover tons of new bands every day, including unsigned bands on the other side of the country that id never be able to hear without downloading their music. also, a lot of these bands i download, i would have to search for years to find their cd's in stores. and i do admit, the majority of the music i download is available in stores, but when you get in the habit of downloading, its so much more convienent. if somethings there for free. youre gonna take it.

HerHopelessHero: i support my bands by going to their shows and buying their merch and telling other people about them, which is a million times more helpful then just buying their cd.

HerHopelessHero: but then again. before the internet. everyone didnt sit in their house all day on the computer. people were outside and able to see flyers for shows, and sitting in record stores buying random cds of bands theyve never heard hoping it was good
i used to hate buying cd's of bands id never heard of just to find out that the CD was fucking horrible. or buying a new CD from one of my favorite bands just to find out if it was horrible. i see it like this: if i download a CD i like, then im going to be supporting that band so its still a good thing for them. if i download a CD i dont like, then i delete it and no harm no foul. either way i didnt waste $15 on something that could've gone either way. i dont think artists really have that big of a problem with music downloads. i think its the label since labels make more moneny from CD's then they do merch and tours, since a lot of that money goes to the bands. and even when it comes to major label artists who dont need me to tell people about them, or go to thei $60 concert and buy their $40 shirts, it really doesnt matter because they're obviously popular enough that there will still be a large number of people out there buying their record for whatever reason. if i download your record, and dont go to your concert, its probably because i like your music but i dont care enough about it to blow $60 to see you in a basketball arena. but, yeah.. im done rambling. i just wanted to say that i support downloading music as long as your support the bands you download.
