Lima FP Preceptorship Day 3 (6/4)

Jun 04, 2008 21:34

Woke up at 8, day started at 9. First thing I did was listen to the heart and lungs of a young boy, so cute! I'm still open to peds right now, saw another patient whom brought her year old daughter, played around with her while my preceptor checked out her hip ROM. I took histories on patients with a cough, bilateral ankle edema, a complicated older woman brought in by her daughters, a woman with joint pain, a woman gaining unexplained weight gain, a man lowering his cholesterol on diet and exercise alone, a woman thinking copper would cure her pain, and a young girl looking for acne treatment. One of the ladies had severe hidradenitis suppurativa that was simply too painful. There was also an emergent case that couldn't breathe, so she got breathing treatment, and I stayed with her keeping her calm.

I got a lot of experience with taking histories, and was a lot more comfortable around the clinic. I know the nurse's name now (Rees), talked to the mental health lady (Janice), got a better idea of his workflow, got a better idea of what to expect. I'm getting better with my heart and lung sounds, and hearing wheezing, smoker's cough. Got a 90 minute lunch break again which is nice, finished at 4 which was great.

My head hurt after that though, even still now, so it's put a damper on my night. Threw a football around with Hao, watched the Stanley Cup final with Chris (go WINGS!). Not looking forward to 90 degree weather tomorrow.
