Why am I here?

Apr 26, 2008 00:40

Whith all the shit our president spouts about why we came here in the first place, I don't think anyone will ever know for sure. But if people ask me why I am willing to come here, I have an answer for them, and little more.

this will tell you )

You're welcome, and thank you as well. You're in this fight as much as I and your husband are.

You know, I think that is why I go and give out the care packages that we do. Its a wonderful experience to see the smiling faces of the people we help. Ok, that is a bit selfish but it makes me feel like I'm actually doing something to help. Yes my job helps the Joe, but I do not get to see it, per say.

Look, I have argued point after point about the good and bad of this campaign...I have come to the realization my role is clear...do what I can to ensure every Joe who goes outside the wire has every opportunity to get back home and do what I can to add a little ray of sunshine to some people who have it pretty rough.

That's the highest endevor we can come to I think. To do everything we can to help the people that we can each day. That is what I do as well, every part of my job to make sure that every joe on the ground has everything they need to get their job done. All of us doing small things in a great way.

Glad to hear there's someone out there that thinks a bit like me.

Darlin', you and I think similar on many things. heehee

But on a serious note...when I came over and got a little bit of grief because I was "supporting a illegal cause" I simply stated, "I'm going over to help the guys on the ground who are doing their duty."

As I former member of these great services, I could no longer sit at home and cheer from the sidelines. I put myself into the lineup. Does it suck here? Yep. Am I in a bit of a personal hell because I have to repress much of who I am? Yep. But you know what...its only a relative short amount of time and I actually say to those who complain...I AM supporting the troops, regardless of my thoughts on the war.

That touches on one of my biggest beefs with a lot of the people who oppose this war. What they hell are they doing? Sitting on your ass at home and emailing to FOX news isn't doing a damn thing. If there had been huge protests in the streets against the presidency about this war, it would have gone differently. On one side there's millions of people now who have signed up and went over here, we get off our ass and do something. They're still on the ass back home.

I've said it once and I'll say it again... akashasniobe April 26 2008, 15:16:40 UTC
You are a wonderful man, Sage, for the things you do. I thank every single man and woman who is over there no matter what their reasoning, but yours is noble and beautiful. Some people may be over there for reasons that don't sound so noble, but some of them I think just use that tough front to get through it and do what they have accepted as their cause. I am thankful for the soldiers and the supporters. I am thankful you will be home soon and I can't wait to be able to say the same thing to my brother.

I see the same thing in some soldier here, the ones who go out of the wire. They talk like they don't give a shit about any Iraqi at all and they'll just blow them all away. But then they come back from a mission it's a different story. Being in charge of the circle right now, I'm seeing that other side quite a bit now, when they're asking for help. We all have our defenses on how to deal with this shit.

My problem with the whole mess is that they are not better off now than when Saddam was there. The religious nuts have gone wild over there, and he was actually keeping that mess under control. OK he was a psycho, but compared to Zimbabwe, Iraq was at least under control.

Yeah, fear of him kept them from killing each other. They have to learn how to rely on themselves to take care of that problem. Which they are doing, but it's a slow and painful process.
