Posting mainly about Christmas, but have to relate the conversation
going on next to me. A major is explaining, in excruciating detail, his
PowerPoint slides the accompanying sergeant. The five slides, with
accompanying bar graphs, explain the risk mitigation of alternate
schedules for their shift, about when there will be one person on shift
versus two and when they will take half days for time off.
Who the fuck needs slides and graphs to explain shifts? I love
officers, can't understand anything unless it's on PowerPoint.

Anyway, on to what I wanted to post about.
Came into work this evening to a dim palace filled with singing. Come in
the front doors into the rotunda, open space up through the three
floors, lots of beautiful stone work and all, with a huge chandelier
that's off. And it's filled with soldiers, whole floor and all the
alcoves on the upper floors. Only light is the candle that most of the
soldiers are holding. And everything is singing 'Silent Night'. Lots of
baritones and tenors but can still hear the few altos and sopranos
floating above the other voices.
I stood there and cried. Not only is that one of my favored Christmas
songs, but hearing that many voices singing it in that setting, was just
beautiful to me. Christmas and Yule (the same holiday to me, just on
different days) is my favorite holiday for many reasons, tonight brought
them back to me.

It's bittersweet this year without my family (figured out that's why
I've been obsessed with the maille and jewelry lately, occupies my mind)
but it's still Christmas, it's still the magical time of the year.

Merry Christmas and Blessed Yule to everyone. Best wishes to all my
friends and family and may the best present you receive be love.
