Forget "Why I'm a Fatty February!" I'm starting my OWN PERSONAL february tradition!
FOOTNOTES IN BLACK HISTORY
TODAY'S DUDE: ELI WHITNEY
In a time when cotton was becoming unprofitably difficult to process, Eli stepped up to the plate and saved the day for slavery. In 1793, he famously invented the cotton gin, revolutionizing the cotton industry forever. According to
EliWhitney.org, slavery was in a decline due to the south's lack of a good money crop, and "...conditions had reached a point where a slave's labor no longer paid for his maintenance."
Thankfully, though, the thin-haired Napoleon-looking weenie man made up for that oopsie by basically inventing the factory as we know it today, creating a system that could churn out thousands of rifles, this time for the North. Hooray!
Thanks a bunch, Eli!
