Candle light

It's been a while since I posted anything, but that's as much because I've been in a creative quagmire as much as anything. But I was playing around with single-source lighting, and ended up with an effect I think works well.

Most renders have at least a few (three is sort of a minimum) of light sources shining down on an image. The render engine uses these to calculate shadow, lighting effects and so on. An image that intends to duplicate daylight can have literally dozens of light sources. Sure, there's only one sun, but the scale and power of that single light source requires dozens of simulated ones to duplicate the effect. Even then, it's pretty obviously artificial, at least with any technology I have access to.

This render was done with a single light source, positioned at the candle's flame. It was an experiment in capturing the shadows cast by body and fingers when shielding the light to keep it from blowing out. As always, it's here http://www.playelfmagazine.com/journal/
