CHARACTER
✧ NAME: Hermione Granger
✧ SERIES: Harry Potter series
✧ HISTORY:
It's a bit long... ✧ TIMELINE: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows; the beginning of chapter 22 (The Deathly Hallows) when the trio apparates away from the Lovegoods.
✧ PERSONALITY:
Hermione, above all, is an extremely intelligent witch; she has been claimed by several people within canon to be the "cleverest witch of her age". Because of her natural affinity to magic, it comes as a surprise to most people that Hermione is, in fact, a muggle-born; her family possesses no magical blood that can be traced through previous generations and she is the first of her family to be bestowed with the gift of magic. Her blood-status does make her victim to much prejudice in the wizarding world, especially by Slytherins and other witches and wizards who support Lord Voldemort and believe in the superiority of pure-blood; this tension only grows thicker at the Dark Lord's slow rise to power once again through the latter books, where in the end she not only has to run for her life due to her aid in Harry's mission, but also because she is the potential target to the Death Eaters and the corrupted Ministry of Magic's prosecution of muggle-borns with their Muggle-Born Registration Commission.
She has an insatiable thirst for knowledge as displayed by her eagerness even prior to arriving to Hogwarts in her first year when she told Harry and Ron upon their first meeting that she had already read all the textbooks assigned and could perform basic-level spells. She's endlessly fascinated by the difference between the muggle world she had grown up in and the new wizarding world she was now to be integrated into. There are times, though, when her abundance of knowledge she'd gathered through her textbooks comes off as boasting and even bossy; she has a bit of an attitude as a know-it-all, though it isn't always intentional. She has a hard time containing her enthusiasm when it comes to her lessons and thus her excessive answering of questions and outbursts of information in class can come off as being pompous. Despite her apparent confidence in her magical skills as a witch, in reality deep down Hermione believes herself to be inadequate due to the fact that she is a muggle-born; as displayed by her Boggart during her third year, her greatest fear is failure. She feels the need to make up for her fear of incompetence by constantly studying and striving to be the best in her class despite her supposed 'handicap'. Later on she learns to accept her muggle-born status and does not view it to be anything she should be ashamed of, and even bears the derogatory term 'Mudblood' proudly to show that she doesn't care what anyone else thinks.
Considering her intelligent mind, Hermione is also a highly logical person; constantly the voice of reason within the trio by resorting to logical thinking compared to the impulsiveness of her friends, she is a person who needs to see evidence of something in order to accept it as fact. The most obvious example of this trait is when the trio went to the Lovegoods' to ask about a symbol which had been reoccurring through their journey to find the Horcruxes which Xenophilius Lovegood later explains to be the sign of the Deathly Hallows. After a retelling of the story where Xenophilius explains each component which makes up the Hallows, Hermione is unable to accept the existence of such highly powerful items because they seem to be completely improbable. She is close minded in the sense that she has a difficult time processing and accepting things which cannot be backed up by proof and credibility; to her, if it isn't in the books or if she can't see it for herself, then it cannot be fact. She also displays sharp wit at times, such as inadvertently insulting Professor Trelawny after writing her class off as completely ridiculous and uninformative, and also against Rufus Scrimgeour when asked if she was planning to pursue a career in Magical Law.
While she may be close-minded in the case of knowledge, on the other hand she is also an extremely compassionate person when it comes to the treatment of other magical creatures. After seeing the unfair treatment of House Elves, she strove to promote equality of the species even though the House Elves themselves tried to explain to her that they are, in fact, happy with their position and duties ordered to them by their masters. Even after their insistence she continues to attempt to spread the awareness of the ill treatment of House Elves within Hogwarts much to the chagrin of all the elves' staffed within the school. She also extends the same sympathy when it comes to Goblins as well when she hears about the poor treatment they are also subjected to, having been oppressed by 'wand bearers' for centuries. There is no doubt that her own blood status plays a large part in her passion for equality as she views herself to be on equal terms with magical creatures who have been treated poorly by wizards and witches-- without the traditional wizarding view to cloud her judgment over the treatment of non-wand bearing creatures, she believes that every being in the wizarding world should be treated with the same respect.
As she may be level-headed and calm when it comes to her every day attitude and composure, initially she proved to act poorly when faced with danger, easily panicking and not being able to think well on her feet. She overcomes this eventually, though, especially during the 7th book when they were forced to face dangerous situations on a regular basis; she was the one who thought to cast a stinging charm on Harry's face to obscure his features when they were captured by the Snatchers, and she was also the one who quickly changed the destination of their apparition destination once she realized that Yaxley had caught hold of her and attempted to follow travel with them to Grimmauld's Place. Her focus aids her whenever she teeters on the edge of panic, and she manages to calm herself down when thinking about the big picture of things.
When it comes to her friends, she is extremely loyal. While she does tend to be argumentative at times, not afraid to stand up to her friends when she believes that she has their best interests at heart, she has never once truly left their sides. When she and Ron were fighting during their sixth year after he began to date Lavender Brown, she was at his bedside when he had been poisoned and had to be treated in the infirmary. Also, when asked by Ron whether she was going to leave with him or stay with Harry after the two males' fight in the tent during their search for the Horcruxes, she remained loyal to Harry despite her deep feelings for Ron; while she had been just as unsure of their mission as the other two as they lacked any guidance which could help them, she still believed in Harry and felt that supporting him was their best and only choice. With the weight of the world on her best friend's shoulder due to the prophecy, she felt it was her obligation as one of his closest friends to try and bear some of the weight with him as it was the least that she could do.
Hermione is also a rather emotional person and tends to cry whether it be out of sadness or being deeply moved; she is also not afraid to let people know when she is angry, even resorting to yelling at her friends or outright ignoring them when she's upset. While her logical mindset causes her to be quite blunt in some situations such as when she attempts to comfort Lavender Brown after her rabbit died by disproving Professor Trelawny's prediction of the animal's death, she otherwise proves to be sensitive to others' emotions. She can also easily detect whenever her friends are mad at her, and in the instance where she feels as though she's to blame for something, she'll tread lightly around them until forgiven, such as when she turned in Harry's Firebolt for inspection during their fourth year and when she accidentally broke his wand while trying to protect them both from Nagini. Hermione also has a tendency to also be rule-abiding and righteous, traits that often annoy Harry and Ron especially when they end up in situations that often break the school rules much to Hermione's displeasure. She does tend to bend in the breaking of rules when it comes to dire situations though, such as fixing up a cauldron of Polyjuice Potion during their second year which, in itself, breaks roughly fifty school rules. Harry and Ron's impulsive behavior even seem to rub off on Hermione somewhat when she later encourages Harry to break the rules set out by Dolores Umbridge in forming Dumbledore's Army, though in her defense it was out of frustration that they were not learning the proper defensive spells in class when there were clear signs of the Dark Lord's return.
In a more condensed summary of her personality, Hermione is intelligent, loyal, and compassionate; she is someone who will always try to do what's right and will prove to be the loyalist of friends to those who earn her trust.
✧ ABILITIES/POWERS:
Magical Mastery: Being a witch and taught at one of the finest schools of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the world, Hermione is highly adept at casting spells whether it be Charms, Transfiguration, or Defensive magic. While she has a basic mastery of all spells taught within the school, a few notable ones which she has used several times within canon and have proved to be especially useful include Undetectable Extension Charm, Memory Charm, conjuration charms, Shield Charm, and other protective charms which have defended and hidden them from Death Eaters.
Skills Duelist: As she has a natural ability to cast magic, it's no surprise that Hermione is also an exceptional duelist. She also displays fast reflexes on many occasions, being able to draw her wand and cast a spell quickly in conjunction with fast thinking. Her style is described to be creative and unpredictable as she mixes an array of magic in order to throw off her opponents and defeat them.
Skilled Potioneer: Hermione is also extremely skilled in potions; she was capable of brewing Polyjuice Potion in just her second year, a potion that is labeled both advanced and difficult. She has memorized the properties of many magical ingredients which aids in her skill of potion making, and has shown to be capable of brewing all potions assigned in class (the only exception being the Drought of Living Death).
Patronus Charm: A spell to ward off Dementors and also a means of communication from long distances, Hermione's Patronus Charm takes the form of an otter. While it was the one spell that Hermione has ever shown trouble of being able to initially cast, she later does get a handle on it and can comfortably utilize the spell without problems.
Nonverbal magic: A rather new brand of magic to Hermione as it was taught during her sixth year, she proved to be skilled in the use of nonverbal magic as well, being the first to master the first spell within her class. Nonverbal magic is exactly as it's called; while most spells require an incantation combined with wand work to cast magic, nonverbal magic only requires the caster to be able to use magic on sheer concentration and mental discipline.
Apparition: The ability to transport one self from one place to another, Hermione showed great competence in the skill when she became the first to Apparate successfully in class, and also managed to pass the test on her first attempt. While able to apparate themselves, Ron and Harry often chose to move through side-long apparition with Hermione which also shows her skill in being able to transport additional people with her when apparating. The longer the distance in Apparition, the more difficult it is to succeed; usually it is limited within the continent that the apparitioner is currently located on, though highly advanced wizards have proven to be successful in such long range travels.
Logical Thinking: Hermione relies on logic rather than pure magical skill, which allows her much perspective when faced with difficult situations and problems which need to be solved. It is through her logic and extended knowledge of magical history and artifacts which helps them through their search for the Horcruxes.
Ancient Runes: Her favorite class, Hermione has shown high mastery of translating Ancient Runes to English. She translated the original copy of The Tales of Beetle the Bard during their search for the Horcruxes, which later lead them to discover the legend of the Deathly Hallows.

✧ THIRD PERSON:It was in that moment as she was preparing to leave to join Harry and Ron for their quest to find the Horcruxes did Hermione realize that she had taken her parents for granted.
A witch born from muggle parents, Hermione could still remember the surprise and confusion of her mum and dad the day that she received her acceptance letter from Hogwarts. Upon discovering that such a place and world existed and that their only daughter was a witch, they supported her despite their slight hesitation and inability to fully understand this new world their daughter would be exposed to. During her vacations home she was an endless chatterbox when it came to retelling them about her time at Hogwarts, about her lessons and the magic she was learning and the friends she had made; they were happy that she was growing this magical world, of course, but even Hermione couldn't ignore the signs of a barrier beginning to form between herself and her parents. But it was unavoidable.
The time they were spending together grew shorter and shorter, more rare the more she became integrated into the wizarding world-- as the years passed, instead of spending her entire vacation home, Hermione sought their permission to stay with the Weasleys in the Burrow. She didn't see the insensitivity behind it all back then; at first it was to spend the rest of the summer with the Weasleys so that she could attend the Quidditch World Cup with both Ron and Harry. Christmas Vacation was skipped as well, in order to be able to stay at school to attend the Yule Ball. It was the same again in her fifth year as she tried to explain evasively that she couldn't be home for the entire Summer Break, that she had to go to the Burrow due to Dumbledore's orders. All she sent was an owl home before the Christmas holidays, a message asking whether she could celebrate the Christmas holidays with the Weasleys instead. It was becoming a frequent pattern, choosing to be with her friends and thus a part of the wizarding world over spending time with her parents, something she didn't see until now.
And now she wasn't sure if she'd ever be able to spend time with them again, as a family. Their mission was too risky-- she was an affiliate of Harry Potter, the target of the Death Eaters and Lord Voldemort himself. Who knew what those people would do to her parents should they find them? She didn't even want to imagine the possible torture they would go through-- and she knew that her parents would never give in to them, knew that they would risk their lives for her without any hesitation. It tore her apart inside, knowing what she had to do in order to keep them safe, in order to keep them away from being found by the Death Eaters. There was only one option now, one that pained her to the point of tears. But it would be for the best-- with their memories of her erased as well as identities changed and a relocation to an entirely new continent, it greatly reduced their danger of being found and torture, of possibly being killed.
Hermione raised her wand as she watched her parents talk amongst each other, hushed whispers about a possible surprise vacation for the family to Australia in celebration of Hermione's last year in Hogwarts and her graduation. Hearing them talk to one each other about her, so excitedly and lovingly had tears pooling in the corners of her eyes all over again-- If she could, she would have accepted without any hesitation. It was funny how the old saying went, how you never truly miss something until it was gone.
And soon enough, it would be.
With a heavy heart, Hermione lifted her chin before the incantation came out in a trembling whisper, lost before it could reach her parents' ears.
"Obliviate."
She watched through teary eyes as she faded from their lives.
