A Return

It's been months since Remus has been able to get into the Inn.

It's been a few days (15 and four hours, not that he's morosely counting) since Sirius called for a split.

He's given me no reason. Nothing that I can accept. He's MINE. I am HIS.He's not a happy wolf by any means, but he is oddly grateful to be back in the Inn

Speak of the Padfoot.

Sirius comes into the Inn with his head slightly hung, oblivious - temporarily at least - to Remus' presence. Lily is walking along beside him, clearly helping him walk straight, murmuring to him in quiet, concerned tones.

"Sirius, you've got to let us do something about this....this can't go on..."

"Save it, Lils. I'm not putting you in danger by letting you get involved."

"Is that why you broke off with Remus? To keep him from getting involved?"

"........."

"....you are an idiot, Sirius Black."

Remus closes his eyes briefly. I knew it. I bloody fucking well knew it.

"It's not going to work," he says, voice gone hoarse. His eyes take on a golden edge when he sees the injuries on Sirius's body. Between one breath and the next, he's in front of him, a hand on one of his shoulders. "Look at me."

Sirius goes still with surprise, then looks up at Remus; he's bruised, his face cut up badly, and when he licks his lips it's obvious that his tongue is burned.

"....Remus. Hullo."

[atamewolf]

"You bloody prat," he says thickly, a hand moving to cradle Sirius's face. "This is why you broke things off?"

Lily murmurs something about a healing potion and takes herself off; Sirius ducks his head as best he can.

"Family's going after me pretty hardcore. I didn't want you in danger."

[atamewolf]

"You are mine," Remus whispers, tipping his face back up. "I am yours. Your sorrows are mine to bear, your joys are mine to share. Those are not empty words, Sirius."

Sirius closes his eyes and shakes his head slightly.

"Moony...I...my family crap shouldn't...."

Long pause.

"I'm an idiot."

[atamewolf]

"Oh yes, you are." Tears are welling up in his eyes. "But you're my idiot, and I'll thank you not to forget that."

"I've never forgotten that."

Sirius reaches up to brush the tears away, forgetting his own problems.

"I've always known I was yours."

[atamewolf]

"Leave nobility for those who are better at it," Remus says with a very shaky laugh. When Lily returns with a healing potion, he takes it from her with a grateful look and gives it to Sirius. "Here--Jane, could you provide me with a cloth--thank you."

He very gently cleans Sirius's face. "What's been happening?"

"He's trying to recruit me."

Who 'he' is should be pretty obvious.

"In his own bizarre fashion."

[atamewolf]

"I see," Remus replies slowly, dangerously. His eyes are gold.

"Can't take 'no' for an answer," Lily says fondly. "You'd think after Sirius ate one of his Death Eaters..."

"Eugh, Lily, I didn't eat him, I just....tore his throat out a little, and didn't we agree not to mention that?"

[atamewolf]

"Apparently not," Remus replies, eyes narrowed. "This happened recently?"

"Easter hols. We were having lunch and they decided to target Lils."

Sirius swallows, looking at Remus nervously. "I was afraid, if you knew, that you'd...look at me differently."

[atamewolf]

"You bloody idiot." He's repeating himself, but he can't help it. "How could you think I'd do such a thing? You're the one who looked at me and found my wolf beautiful."
