There's a man standing in the middle of the lobby, staring at his pocketwatch as if it holds the secret of existence. (Which it doesn't.)

(Well, not anymore, that is.)

Here, have a certain someone who's going to look very familiar.

The Doctor is just staring. He had been doing something else, getting ready to leave, actually, but it seems he's gotten a bit sidetracked what with his doppleganger standing there.

Oh, the Inn had a sick sense of humour, it does.

Truly evil.

Now the question is which one of them is going to manage to say something first.

Oh, don't you worry, the Doctor won't be silent for too much longer.

He's on his feet a few moments latter, noting the fob watch and then smiles. "Well," he starts. "It's better than dying, isn't it?"

"Is it?" Rough voiced.

"Can I leave this place, then? Go back to my life, my job-"

(Joan)

"-or am I to be locked away for the rest of my existence, like a bird in a cage?"

[allthroughtime]

"You're like a bird in a cage but the bird's a cleaver one. You know the type, yeah? The kind that manage to get out of their cages every once and a while?"

There's a sigh and he looks away. "You can go places, you just can't go back to where you came from."

A pause.

"Sorry."

Someday, he might find a bit of comfort from that.

At the moment, however, it's a vicious turn of the knife that he hadn't seen coming.

A curt nod, and then he walks away.

Extremely impolite, but he can't bring himself to care.
