Lapsed anarchist is in the Inn, reading a book.

He only looks innocent.

Really.

Sakura walks over with the fixing for tea, and possibly other sundries as well (don't ask where she gets it...trade secret).

"Is the book good?"

"It's entertaining." A book doesn't have to be good to be entertaining.

"Entertaining in a decent way, or in a 'this is so bad it's funny' way?" She can't help being a bookworm, especially not with the massive library here.

"More the latter than the former. I'm not sure how some of this crap made it past the editors." Collins isn't one to look down on bookworms.

"Horrible editing jobs? Or maybe people who don't care and just want the cash from sales."

She sets out a bunch of teas, small cakes, and other eadibles on the coffee table.

"Care for anything?"

"Tea'd be good--" and a small cup appears in his hands "--thanks. How're you?"

"Adjusting..." She smiles and makes herself a cup of green tea. "I love the people I've met here, especially Angel." She does, after all, want to learn how to sew better than she can. Closing wounds is hardley on par with making a dress. "The two other girls, Buffy and Faith, are going to be fun to coah as well."

"Can't get better than Angel, though I might be biased." Just a bit.

That gets a big grin.

"Care to tell how you two met?"

"Originally...." his voice goes soft, reflective, "we met once in a place kind of like this, outside of time and normal rules. Talked, pretty well fell for each other there, but had to leave. After a while....I thought he was a dream."

He clears his throat. "Met up again about four years later after I'd gotten mugged."

She's gone a bit starry-eyed. "It sounds like you two were made for each other, then. I wish I could say the same about Sasuke..." She frowns, shakes her head, and smiles again.

"How many years has it been since then?"

"Four." Quieter voice. "Angel and I....had the same sickness. No cure for it. He died about ten months after we met up again...."

Death obviously isn't ballsy enough to come between them for long.

"Sickness?" Now she's curious. There are few diseases in her world that she doesn't know about, and as a medic in training, expanding the knowledge base is incredibly important.

"Do you mind telling me what it was? Is?"

"It's called AIDS -- the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. Basically, it destroys a person's immune system."

*wince*

"That sounds horrible to live with! How do people manage? Are there medications available? Cures being developed?"

If she lived in the same world, she'd be going nuts trying to find a cure.

"There are medications, but like I said, no cure. Not yet, anyway. Mostly what the medicines do is try to prolong a person's life, but it can't be done indefinitely." Ignore the roughness in his voice. "It's not an airborne contagion, at least."
