No, the narration isn't just tag-the-Doctor-with-Rose happy (though it's quite fun), she just thinks that Rose might be good to talk to, for Five. Considering she's the first person who got close to the Doctor after the Time War.
So here, Doctor. Have a blonde holding out a mug of tea, Jackie Tyler-style. Lots of sugar, lots of cream, and a little bit of Earl Grey.
The mug of tea held out in his general direction is nearly a little startling. He thinks his own cup away and accepts her proffered one, a little curious of its contents.
"Thank you," It's terse and short, but it's not her fault, and he's really trying to keep his emotions from lashing out upon her. "Are you feeling any better?" He can at least pretend that everything is just dandy with himself. Because really, how do you explain what he knows...
He tries the tea and is pleasantly surprised, rather fond of the taste it has.
Looking up to her he offers her a slight smile, "I suppose I could say the same thing, really. Did the math, but the answers were certainly not satisfactory. In fact, mine went wrong from the very equation."
Then again, anything that involved the Master most often did.
Rose frowns a little. "You... want to talk about it?"
She's not sure. It isn't that she isn't sure she wants to hear, just that she isn't sure how he'll take the offer. Or if he will. Or what she'll do if he does.
"Perhaps when I know the details," Five murmurs. He's not sure he wants the details, but all he has are fragmented pieces the Master has given him and those are never nearly the complete truth.
"Thank you, though." A smile. He places a hand to her shoulder and gives it a brief squeeze before he's back to sipping at his tea. "I might have to hold you to that offer, though, for a later date."
Silence. Not to awkward, mostly rather comfortable. Rose doesn't know what to say. She can guess that maybe he'd found out about the Time War, but she doesn't know much at all about that. The only thing on her mind is the frighteningly vast amount of time stretched out in front of her, and she doesn't really think anyone's interested in hearing about that.
So... silence. They can emo quietly together. Where are their braces? You can't do it properly if you're not wearing braces!
