I flooded my sleeves as I drove home again...

Angua is sitting in the lobby in one of the more comfortable chairs - dogs and werewolves both have a sense for the most comfortable chair in a room, and will make a point of sitting in it, or curling up on it, whichever is appropriate ( Read more... )

Not far away is a filmmaker, flailing at his camera and attempting to dislodge a sticky piece of film. He is paying absolutely no attention to the world around him, even going so far as to fall over the trailing film.

"Crap."

Angua raises an eyebrow, her attention drawn mostly by the falling over. Her lips quirk into an amused smile as she watches him. "Need some help there?"

"Oh, er... um. I might need a hand up. I think I got tied up in the film." He's more than slightly red. "Blasted film got stuck."

Angua chuckles and gets smoothly to her feet, walking over and offering a hand to him. "At least you don't seem to be really injured, even if you do look stupid."

Sympathy? What is this sympathy you speak of?

He accepts the hand, standing, and brushing invisible dust off of his pants. "Nah. I'm fine. I bouce back quite easily." He unties the film from around his legs, and offers a hand to shake, quite sheepishly. "Um. I'm Mark Cohen. And thanks."

She is trying valiantly not to laugh at him with the film tangled around his legs. She's going to be nice. Well, a little.

"You're welcome," she says, shaking his hand. "I'm Angua."

She can laugh. Mark is actually almost laughing at himself. What he does, however is mentally stare. Angua. In a uniform. Oh Shit.

Nothing at all passes his face, however. He's been in too many interdimentional spaces. But but but. Angua!

"It's nice to meet you. And I'm sorry for interrupting you. I forget where my feet are sometimes."

"It's fine. I don't think I've seen you around here before." She pauses, and tilts her head to the side, considering. When she actually stops to think about it, though... "I guess you aren't new, though. Just haven't run into you before."

She can smell the Inn on him, after all, and she's run into his scent around the Inn before, catalogued in the back of her mind somewhere.

"Oh, yeah. I've been around for a while. I think my roommate was one of the first people to find this place." Mark shrugs. "I've been in a couple places like this, actually."

Angua raises her eyebrows skeptically. "There's more than one?"

Lovely. She has to wonder how many people get surprised by walking into places like this - and why nobody ever seems to mention it, somehow.

"Yeah. There's some bar called Milliways where you can watch the universe going explody outside of the window, and here." Mark shrugs. "For all I know there could be about fifteen other places, but I don't know about them. It's refreshing, though." He sighs. "My world is so normal that it's boring."

"Oh, lovely," she says dryly. "I think I'd prefer to stay away from the end of the universe."

Her world... is decidedly not boring. She'll just let it go at that. A little boredom every now and then is welcome by contrast.

"It wasn't that bad, actually." Mark shrugs. "The world didn't ever actually end. Things were just exploding out of the window." He pauses. "Alright, that sounds like I'm high on something, but I swear that's what it was." Beat. "It never let me get film of it." He barrels on, cheerfully. "So, what's your world like?"

She shrugs, smirking slightly. "Dirty, messy, often very confusing. Right now I'm living in Ankh-Morpork. I'm in the Watch."

Something about the way she says it implies there's some doubt as to how much longer she'll stay in the Watch, or in Ankh-Morpork at all. But that's Angua for you, always poised to run.

"Funny named city." Mark's holding off the fanboy quite well, thank you. "So, er, what do you watch?" He catches the doubt, but doesn't remark. Yet.

"People, mostly. Sort of a... city guard." She shrugs. "It used to be more... run and hide and drag whoever's unconscious afterwards back to the cells, but I guess things have changed in the past year or so."

Thank you, Carrot.
